Hetton Juniors V Coxhoe United
Coxhoe kicked off against Hetton Juniors. Everytime both teams have met one goal is usually enough to win the game. Hetton came at Coxhoe in the first five minutes and created the better chances. The pressure paid off when Hetton scored the first goal. Coxhoe started playing much better after conceding and created a few chances of their own.The second half saw Coxhoe pushing forward for an equaliser. Nathan Hegarty went on a great run beating three players but hitting his shot just wide. Lewis Jowett also hit a snapshot just wide in the dying seconds.
Hetton Juniors 1 Coxhoe United 0 M.o.M - Mason Hoyland

Coxhoe United V Swalwell Juniors
Coxhoe started the second game against Swalwell who had an impressive 100% winning record. It was Coxhoe who started the better playing some nice football with Brad, Mason and Joseph linking up together putting Swalwell under the cosh. Lewis Jowett picked up the ball just inside his own half, knocked it down the line to Mason Hoyland. Mason then turned and slotted it through to Joseph Kerrigan. Joseph coolly rounded the keeper and fired home. The second half was no different, Coxhoe playing the best football this season. Swalwell first chance of the game came from a long range shot which was supperbly saved by Nathan Hegarty. Coxhoe got their rewards with a second goal when Mason Hoyland intercepted a goal kick and burried it into the left hand corner of the net. Matthew Whiting and Lewis Jowett kept Swalwell at bay for the last five minutes with some resolute defending.

Coxhoe v Willington
This was always going to be a hard match as Willington are top of the league . However , the girls went out determined to show how much they have improved and they didn't let themselves down . Katherine Dunne had a great match in goal , having volunteered to take this position . As well as making some solid saves , she set up some great attacks with her long kicks . Ashleigh Stores also had a fabulous game in defence quietly making some very mature tackles and clearences from defence . (a well deserved man of the match)The score was 0-0 at half time , so with much enthusiasm the girls started the second half . The team played some excellent football , with some determined runs from midfield by Sophie Whiting and Beth Vasey and eventually Abigail Griffths hit the ball into the top corner of the net. (her best goal this season)
Willington scored three in the second half , but the team never gave up attacking to the end . This was one of their best performances this season . Well done!!!
Final score Coxhoe United 1 Willington 3 - Player OTM Ashleigh Stores

Coxhoe v Consett Magpies
Again a hard match with Consett being second in the league . We started with another new goalie , so thanks to Vanessa Stephenson for volunteering this match . The team again played lovely football passing the ball around and supporting each other . Sophie Whiting played another storming game in centre midfield helpng our two new players , Sophie Tierney and Phan Piercy to fit in , which they did excellently . The whole team attacked confidently and we had many chances on the Consett goal . Katherine Dunne had a suberb game marking Consett main goalscorer out of the game . Up until the last ten minutes it was still 0-0 , then Beth Vasey got injured and had to be carried off . The girls were worried about Beth and lost a little of their concentation and Consett took advantage and scored two late goals . However , a much improved performance by the whole team .
Final score: Coxhoe United 0 Consett Magpies 2 - Player OTM: Sophie Whiting

Coxhoe United V Nissan Real
Coxhoe went into the weekend's games missing several players through injury and illness. Unfortunately we were playing the top two teams. First up was Nissan Real who dominated the first half scoring twice. Coxhoe gave them a run for their money in the second half going close a couple of times. Nissan killed the game off with a third goal; if not for some great defending from man of the match Matthew Whiting the score could have been more.
Coxhoe United 0 Nissan Real 3 M.o.M - Matthew Whiting

Swalwell Juniors V Coxhoe United
Swalwell got off to a flying start by scoring in the first minute. The Coxhoe defence was put under constant pressure and Swalwell got their rewards with a well taken second goal from a narrow angle. Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse Matthew Whiting went down injured; having no substitutes he tried his best to play on.Coxhoe played their hearts out having to play most of the second half with only six players. Unfortunately Swalwell scored their third goal.

Coxhoe United v Consett Devils
This was the first week since before Christmas that the team has had a sub , and it made a big difference . The team played the whole game very confidently with some very mature and thoughtful passing sequences , which resulted in many attacks on the Devils goal . Unfortunately just like many other times the goals just wouldn't go into the net . Sophie Whiting and Vanessa Stephenson had particularly good games in the midfield , with Sophie settling into a new role in the centre with a dominance that we are becoming to expect from her . Ashleigh Stores and Katherine Dunne made a good new partnership in defence and it was unlucky when the Devils knocked two goals in in the first half . However , Coxhoe are growing as a team and came out fighting in the second half and soon were attacking again with a cross by Sophie which was connected strongly by Sophie Thiercy on her debut . Well done also to Phin Piercy on a good first match also.
Final Score: Coxhoe United 1 Consett devils 2 - MoM: Vanessa Stephenson

Coxhoe United v Fulwell
The team started strongly , but it was soon clear that Fulwell had come to win and win strongly . They put our defence under pressure imediately and we were soon several goals down . The girls did not give up they fought back and had several attacks set up by Sophie Whiting who was again controlling the centre of the field . Unfortunately , during the game Sophie had several times where she was having trouble breathing so in the end was taken of . This made a great difference and Fulwell took advantage knocking more goals past the defence . However , we now are looking to build the team up with our new players and everyone gave their all .

Coxhoe United v Lambton Lions
Coxhoe enjoyed complete domination in the first half in their home fixture against Lambton Lions but failed to get passed a well organised Lambton defence. When Lambton were awarded a penalty halfway through the second half it looked as if all of Coxhoe's good work would count for nothing but the penalty shot went sailing over the bar. James Marshall saved the day for the Coxhoe lads when he added to his tremendous goal scoring run of late since his move from defence to midfield. A good three points for the boys but the scorelne failed to reflect Coxhoe's superiority on the day.

Waldridge Park Reds V Coxhoe United
This weekend'sgames were played in perfect conditions for once. First up were Waldridge ParkReds. The first half saw very few chaces for both sides with Matthew Whiting and Joseph Kerrigan forming a good defence partnership.Coxhoe came out with a bit more urgency and created a chance for Lewis Jowett who shot wide. As time was running out, the best chance of the game fell to Mason Hoyland who unluckily pulled his shot wide in the dying seconds.
Waldridge Park Reds 0 Coxhoe United 0 M.o.M - Brad Bihari

Coxhoe United V Washington United Lynx
Coxhoe started the second game passing the ball around very well. This eventually created a couple of good chances. The first fell to Brad Bihari who shot from distance which just shot wide. Liam Wright was a constant threat and was unlucky not to score in the first half. Coxhoe worked hard and kept pushing forward in the second half, with Nathan Hegarty creating chances from the left wing. Washington broke away only for Dylan Eadsforth to put in an all important last-ditch tackle. Finally Coxhoe were rewarded for their persistence when Liam Wright picked up a loose ball and fired home with an excellent finish.

Coxhoe United v Washington Juniors
The team started off very slowly this week and did not play very well in the first half , due to this they were caught off guard and Washington scored early in the first half . However , in the second half they had woken up and began to play like we know they can play with some excellent passing moves between Sophie Whiting and Abigail Griffths. Beth Vasey and Ashleigh Stores did their jobs well in defence and stopped Washington getting through again.
Final score Coxhoe United 1 Washington Juniors 1 - MoM: Katherine Dunne

Coxhoe United v Washington Lionessess
Yes you really did read the score correctly!! The girls came out determined to play better than the first game and they most certainly did . From the start they attacked the goal as if their lives depended on it . They pressured every ball and worked hard to play the passing football that we had asked them to play . It was such a team performane that l am not going to pick anyone out , only to say thank you to Katherine Dunne and Beth Vasey for volunteering to go in goal.Goals scored by......Abigail Griffths 2, Beth Vasey 2 , Sophie Whiting 1 , Holly Crozier 1 , Vanessa Stephenson 1.

Coxhoe United v City of Durham Storm
The under 12's went into a tough fixture against a high flying City of Durham Storm without the services of several key members of their squad. The lads however were full of grit and determination and dominated the match despite going a goal behind after only 8 minutes. Coxhoe's man of the match, James Marshall scored his second goal in two weeks after 15 minutes and completed his brace 11 minutes into a second half totally dominated by Coxhoe.

Nissan Sunderland Real v Coxhoe United
At last the cup competition got underway this weekend. Coxhoe UTD took on Nissan Real on a wind swept day. Coxhoe started really well using the advantage of having the wind behind them in the first half. Within two minutes of the start, Brad Bihari latched onto a poor goal kick and fired past the Nissan keeper. Coxhoe pushed forward for a second goal with Mason Hoyland shooting just wide. The second half was a different story with a Nissan Real doing all of the passing. Coxhoe United hung on with some great defending from Matthew Whiting and Mason Hoyland. Liam Wright also pulled off three great saves in the dying minutes.
Final score: Nissan Sunderland 0 Coxhoe United 2 - MoM: Mason Hoyland

Coxhoe United v East Durham Hawks
Having won the first game of the day Coxhoe United came out brimming with confidence. Once again Coxhoe started with the wind behind them and took full advantage. Liam Wright scored the first goal with a low shot past the Durham keeper. Durham were struggling to clear the ball against the terrible wind but Liam Wright latched onto a clearance and finishing coolly once again. Brad Bihari rounded off a good first half with a snap shot at goal, which went flying into the bottom left hand corner. The second half saw Durham come out fighting and they were rewarded with a goal. Conceding a goal only lifted Coxhoe and within a minute Brad Bihari fired in his second goal of the game. Coxhoe's best move of the match saw Joseph Kerrigan pass the ball down the line to Lewis Jowett who whipped in a low cross. Then Dylan Eadsforth shot at goal, only for Durham to clear off the line. Brad Bihari rounded off a perfect day by scoring Coxhoe's fifth goal of the match and also his first ever hat trick for Coxhoe United.
Final score: Coxhoe United 5 East Durham Hawks 1 - MoM: Liam Wright

Coxhoe United v Consett Devils
This is going to be a hard second half of the season as we now only have seven players , but the girls started positively with some very attacking play from Sophie Whiting , Vanesss Stephenson and Abigail Griffths . The team had been asked to play in a new formation and adapted very quickly tp the new style with Katherine Dunne sending some lovely balls out from central defence . Beth Vasey had a very solid game in goal ( which is not her normal position ) , making several vital saves . Coxhoe broke through the Consett defence just before half time with a fast attack from our mid field who sent the ball straight to the feet of Abigail Griffths who banged it in the net for a well deserved lead . The second half saw Coxhoe build on their earlier play with many lovely passing moves that show how far this team have come this season , however the lack of a sub showed in the last ten minutes when tiredness started to show and Consett broke through twice to score twice late on . This was a great game played by both teams in the spirit that it should be played .
Final Score: Coxhoe United 1 Consett Devils 2 - Player OTM: Vanessa Stephenson

Coxhoe 1 v Consett Magpies
This game looked like we had a different team on . The girls did not attack the ball in the first half and were 4 down by half time despite some fine tackling by Ashleigh Stores and Holly Crozier and some very brave saves by Beth Vasey . After some straight talking at half time the girls came out fighting and played some creative football resulting in Sophie Whiting taking the ball from the half way line and scoring . The team battled until the end and were a credit to themselves in the second half .

Coxhoe United v Mill Hill BoysCoxhoe struggled to find to make headway in a dissapointing first half display against a well organised, 10 man, Mill Hill team. Coxhoe were limited to a number of long range efforts which were easily dealt with by the Mill Hill goalkeeper. It wasn't until the second half of the second period of play until Coxhoe started to play the sort of football they are capable of when James Marshall struck an unstoppable shot to open the scoring for United. When Macauley Smith added a second 5 minutes later the result was never in doubt.

Coxhoe United v SAFC 24/7 Panthers
The first tie between these 2 teams 5 months ago ended in a 1-1 draw when the Panthers equalised in the dying seconds after Coxhoe had led for most of the game, so United were keen to get off to a good start and maintain a cushion in the score-line this time. Their start could not have been better with Rhys Wayman opening the scoring within 1 minute and then doubling his tally 15 minutes later. Curtis Bihari managed to retain that 2 goal margin with a goal line clearance when SAFC turned up the pressure but Andrew Simpson soon added a third to steady the Coxhoe nerves. The Panthers maintained their determination and managed to claw 1 back, but straight from the resulting kick off Alex McGrath sliced a ball through the 24/7 midfield for Stephen Wadge to collect and launch a great shot that rounded the keeper to add another for Coxhoe just before half time. The second half proved just as entertaining with good football from both teams but neither side was able to add to the score-line.
Final Score: Coxhoe United 4 SAFC 24/7 Panthers 1 - MoM Alex McGrath & Stephen Wadge

Blackfyne v Coxhoe United Lions
After almost 3 months without a game it was a pleasure to see the Lions kick a ball again, as we faced Blackfyne in a gayle force wind at Ford Quarry, the game started with both teams looking to keep the ball on the deck and play some football. The early exchanges were fairly even until Blackfyne were awarded a free kick just outside of the box and there MOM stepped up and smashed the ball into the top corner to give them a 1-0 lead. The lead was soon doubled when some poor marking at the back post gifted Blackfyne their second however 3 changes in the last 10 mins of the first half spurred Coxhoe on and with 2 or 3 chances before the break we should have scored. The second half was again end to end stuff with both teams creating a lot of chances in an enjoyable game to watch, Mark Arnold was in fine form in the Coxhoe net and fully deserved the Man of the Match award but the whole team battled hard with almost everyone having a shot of some kind in the second half. A good start back after not playing for so long - keep it up and we'll get that first win.

Whitburn & Cleadon v Coxhoe United
Coxhoe faced Whitburn & Cleadon in a tough away fixture in freezing conditions with half of their squad out of action. At kick off there were only 8 Coxhoe players on the field so realistically there was only going to be one winner. Coxhoe made up for lack of numbers with skill and determination but conceded 2 first half goals. In the second half Coxhoe continued to show character and much of the football was played in the Whitburn half but, as in the first half, sheer weight of numbers meant that the home side pushed forward and scored a further 2 goals. Lewis Dodsworth struck a beautiful freekick which found the back of the net in injury time to make the finalscoreline 4-1. MoM: Macauley Smith

Seaham Town v Coxhoe United
An away tie to Seaham Town proved to be a tricky fixture for Coxhoe United Under 11, 11/side. United managed to keep Seaham at bay for 25 minutes, but after several opportunities the Town managed to beat the Coxhoe defence to open the scoring. A second followed 3 minutes into the second half and a fantastic penalty save from Lee Saiger for Coxhoe gave United some hope, but still they were unable to penetrate far beyond the Seaham midfield. As time ticked away a recovery for United seemed unlikely and a third for Seaham with 5 minutes left to play ensured their victory.

Coxhoe United vs East Durham
Although Coxhoe took control of the game and demonstrated some great passing throughout the team, it wasn't until the 8th minute before Alex McGrath netter the opener after breaking the offside trap and running almost half the length of the pitch and slotting past the Durham keeper. United's 2nd from Rhys Wayman 4 minutes later was a wonderful looping ball over the heads of the defence and James Gilson ensured a comfortable half time 3 goal cushion with a shot across the face of the goal from the right wing. The increasing wind in the 2nd half made conditions a little trickier for the United defence but a great penalty save from Lee Saiger in Coxhoe's net maintained the 3 goal lead until 2 minutes before full time when Andrew Simpson stepped up to tuck away a 4th.

Coxhoe United v Newbottle
After a 2 week break the table topping under 12s had a stiff test in a home fixture against second placed Newbottle. The visitors showed their intent and attacked straight from the off and forced man of the match, Jason Jones, in the Coxhoe goal into action in only the second minute. For the rest of the first half both teams showed skill and flair but with both defences in fine form it was never going to be a high scoring game. The deadlock was broken after 28 minutes when the ever dangerous Newbottle number 10 kept his nerve and placed the ball in the net after a break on the 28 minute mark. Their lead, however, was short lived when Angus Reeves, playing in his debut match, equalised on the stroke of half time. The second half was highly entertaining with both teams displaying grit, determination and skill, but, as in the first half both defences were in fine form and no more goals were forthcoming. Jason Jones, playing in goal for Coxhoe was awarded the Coxhoe man of the match whilst both Coxhoe debutees Tom Nesbitt and goalscorer Angus Reeves showed great promise.

Bowburn Youth v Coxhoe United
The long awaited first local derby match of the season took place in perfect conditions at Bowburn Football ground with Coxhoe looking for a second straight win and Bowburn searching for a first win of the season. Straight from the kick off Coxhoe broke forward down the left and created a chance in the first minute with a shot that went just wide and followed this up with most of the attacking play in the first 10 mins with another couple of chances going begging to Rhys and Andrew up front, however it was Bowburn who opened the scoring when the ball broke clear just inside the box and was calmly put into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance. This spurred us back to life and although we didn't play our usual flowing football we again created chances which ended in Cameron breaking into the box and hitting a shot that deflected off the keeper and into the opposite corner to give us a 1-1 half time score line. A fiery half time team talk got things back on track as the ever dangerous Cameron gave the Bowburn defence a tough time on the right hand side and it was from one of those runs that we earned a corner and although the ball was partially cleared a good ball back into the box landed at the feet of Joe Nixon, who could have been in an offside position, but as any good striker does he smashed the ball into the back of net rather than wait for the whistle to give us a 2-1 lead. Bowburn created chances in the second period and with their height always looked dangerous from corners but the Coxhoe defence remained strong and with the help of a fantastic last ditch clearance from Stephen we kept our slender lead going into the final 3rd of the game. With Andrew back up front the pace began to tell and a through ball created a 1 on 1 which he took with great ease, as Bowburn tried to salvage something from the game and pressed forward another quick break sent Rhys clear and he capped a fine performance to scored again from a 1 on 1 giving a final score of 4-1 to Coxhoe. Only 1 game left now before Xmas, let's make if 3 out of 3 and finish the year on a high.
Final Score: Bowburn Youth 1 Coxhoe United 4 - MoM: Joe Nixon

Coxhoe United Lions v Brandon United
The Lions took on Brandon again this week and just as we kicked off the rain started, both teams started well with some nice passing moves to create early chances but no goals resulted, a tight Coxhoe defence with Cameron and Kieran kept Brandon at bay as we struggled uphill and into the wind & rain to create any chances at the opposite end as Max, James and Henry all worked hard in midfield trying to release McKenzie up front. However with only a couple of minutes left in the first half we failed to clear the ball and Brandon took the lead with a scrappy goal, they doubled that lead a minute before half time with a break away goal that saw our heads drop a little.A stern half time team talk lifted us as we came back out after the break with Lewis replacing McKenzie up front and we looked the more composed side as we created some early chances but again a break down the left hand side saw Brandon take a 3 goal lead with only a couple of minutes gone in the 2nd half. From that point on the game became very open with the Lions showing great heart and determination to get something out of the game with Lewis, Henry and a great long range effort from James all coming close the that elusive goal. We even sent the big lads up from the back to try and get something from a series of corners we got late on but still failed to bag a goal, a late injury to Mark in the Coxhoe goal saw Kieran pull on the shirt and gloves to make a couple of great saves before the end of the game.

Bowburn v Coxhoe United
Bowburn started the game confidently because of the recent improvement in their results and it showed. Coxhoe were very quiet for much of the first half and this proved costly as just before halftime because Bowburn scored the first goal of the match. Coxhoe came out the second half fighting and created a few good chances. Mason Hoyland managed to keep the ball in when the Bowburn defence thought it was going out. He cut inside and shot just wide from a tight angle. The longer the game went on the harder Coxhoe pressed forward for a goal but it wasn't to be.
Final score: Bowburn 1 Coxhoe United 0 - MoM: Brad Bihari

Durham County v Coxhoe United
As usual the game was a close encounter against Durham County. Both teams cancelled each other out for most of the first half. The only chance in the first half fell to a County player whose snap shot flew into the bottom corner. The second half was an even affair with Coxhoe's best chance falling to Liam Wright who smashed the ball against the post. Coxhoe worked very hard and never gave up.

Coxhoe United v Boldon Colt Panthers
After a 2 week break, Coxhoe were eager to get onto the pitch and play some football.United started positively, pinning Boldon into their own half for much of the early stages but took 20 minutes to get the first goal through Cameron Holdsworth. Another 7 minutes saw Alex McGrath double the advantage but this triggered a surge of pressure from the Panthers who clawed 1 back just before half time. They continued this pressure into the 2nd half and evened up the match after 10 minutes but this spurred United on to 2 goals from James Gilson. Boldon didn't give up and narrowed the gap with 10 minutes left on the clock, ensuring a tense finish for all spectators, but Coxhoe managed to hang onto the lead to secure a much needed 3 points.

Shotton Jets v Coxhoe United
The Panthers first game was against Shotton Jets, it was the Panthers who asked all the early questions, Jordan Harker & Faye Mullen were winning everything in midfield and with 3 minutes gone a fabulous corner from Lewis Elmer sees Anthony Wharrier head home his 15th goal of the season. One minute later Jordan Harker puts a great ball in the box and Lewis Elmer just knocks wide. Shotton's first attack of the game was broke down by Ryan Dobson & Danny Teggert, with 10 minutes gone Anthony Wharrier & Lewis Elmer again combine to make it 2-0 with Faye Mullen winning the ball in midfield, knocking it through to Lewis Elmer on the right who then puts the ball along the box to Anthony Wharrier who blasts home. From the kickoff Shotton attack Flynn Fisher dives full stretch to keep the ball out of the net Halftime 2-0.In the second half Shotton pick up the pace but with Ryan, Danny & Flynn in good form Shotton could not break it down. With 3 minutes to go Lewis, Anthony & Jordan all break & Lewis scores from just outside the box to make it 3-0.

The start of the second half the Panther's come out a different team with Faye Mullen & Jordan Harker pushing forward, Ryan Dobson & Danny Teggert were putting long balls through for Lewis Elmer & Anthony Wharrier to attack. The Panther's get the breakthrough with 7 minutes left when Anthony puts a nice ball through for Lewis who hits the defender & the ball falls to Jordan who then makes no mistake, then with 2 minutes to go Tyneside get through one on one with Flynn Fisher who makes a spectacular dive to save the Panther's 3 Points.

Coxhoe United v Birtley Town
Coxhoe started the game very brightly and put Birtley under immense pressure. The first chance fell to Brad Bihari after Joseph Kerrigan's through ball put Brad in a one on one situation. However Birtley's defence caught the back of his leg and the referee tried to play an advantage. Unfortunately this resulted in Brad shooting wide. Matthew Whiting and Joseph Kerrigan were solid at the back and limited Birtley to very few chances. The second half saw Birtley come more into the game and the Birtley striker fired a shot against the post. Dylan Eadsforth won a free kick just outside the box, so up stepped Mason Hoyland who unluckily fired just wide.

Coxhoe played well in the first half and created a number of chances with the best coming from Bethany Garner who created problems down the right. Jodie Borthwick played some great football and controlled the game well. The half finished 0-0 and the game flowed in the same manner in the second half with both sodes having chances to open the scoring. Five minutes from time Hardwick broke down the right hand side and a low driven ball crept in at the back post. Coxhoe's heads went down at the restart and Hardwick again broke and scored to make it 2-0. Pelton Newfield Ladies v Coxhoe United
Coxhoe went into the second game of the day knowing that they had never got a point from the last 2 games against Pelton with both games finishing 1-0. The game stared well for Coxhoe with a lot of possession. Pelton, however, threatened to score first with Katie Robers saving with her legs. Katie was the busiest of the keepers but she was big and strong in front of goal and was controlling her box well. Half time came with the score at 0-0. The second half was the same as the first with the game being very close. Pelton however broke Coxhoe's hearts when a cross from the right wing crept in at the front post 3 minutes from time. Just after the start the Pelton keeper took a goal kick which did not clear the half and Bethany Garner sprinted to the ball only to put it wide. Coxhoe threw everything forward for the last 3 minutes and Katie played some beautiful balls into the heart of the Pelton box but no one was able to get on the end of them to level the game.

Hilda park v Coxhoe United
This was a really hard game for Coxhoe . The girls had drawn last game with Hilda Park who are top of the table and our opponents were determined not to let us do it again . After only a few minutes Coxhoe were behind and we never really got into the game . Holly Crozier played superbley making some extremely brave saves to keep the score down . However , Coxhoe did not give up and battled on with Vanessa Stephenson , using her pace to bring the ball up to Abigail Griffths , who had several shots at goal . Unfortunately Hilda Park were just to physical for Coxhoe to really make there presence felt . Well done to the whole team for working hard , especially the ones who got injured and carried on.

Coxhoe United v Consett YMCA
This was a well fought game with both teams of a similar standard . Coxhoe started strongly with every player pressuring for every ball . Katie Hubery and Ashleigh Stores had good games in defence , and rarely let the ball come into Coxhoes penalty area . The whole of the midfield worked strongly bringing the ball out of our end and working it up the pitch for many shots at goal . Consett worked well in defence to keep out the shots , but in the last few minutes Abigail Griffths managed to get one in the net . The Coxhoe team were exhausted after this match as we had no subs due to illness . Well done to Sophie Whiting for playing through the pain of a knee injury , and thank you to YMCA for such a nice game played in the spirit that it should be.

Mill Hill Boys v Coxhoe United
Coxhoe visited Mill Hill Boys looking to continue their excellent form that has seen them shoot up the first division in recent weeks. Coxhoe's goal machine, Lee Milburn put the boys on the way with a goal after only 4 minutes and again after 10 minutes. When Macauley Smith scored on 19 minutes to make it 3-0 to Coxhoe it was obvious there was only going to be 1 winner but Mill Hill did pull one back from a free kick on 22 minutes to make it 3-1 going into half time. In the second half it was total Coxhoe domination and Macauley Smith got his second of the day with a beautiful solo effort. Just 2 minutes later Lee Milburn, brimming with confidence, completed his hat trick. As Coxhoe continued to apply pressure Mill Hill conceded an own goal and then Macauley Smith completed the second Coxhoe hat trick of the day with another stunning goal. This excellent result sent Coxhoe to the top of the First Division for the first time this season.

Coxhoe started the game well with East Durham defending in numbers but looking threatening on the counter attack. As the rain became heavier the game slowed down and at half time the 0 - 0 score was a good reflection of the weather. The second half started much more brightly and so did Coxhoe who put pressure on the East Durham goal from the start. Jodie,Bethney and Beth Garner all combined well to force the play and liked up well. They started to pass the ball out from defence with both Hayley and Megan showing some cool control. Coxhoe United v Whitburn & Cleadon
Coxhoe went into this home fixture in the rare position of being able to field a full strength team. Whitburn are a good team who like to play attractive, attacking football and before today's fixture had scored in impressive 21 goals in only 6 league outings. They quickly made their intentions known when Jason Jones, in the Coxhoe net, was called into action within seconds of the start. Coxhoe, however, began to find their feet and at the 10 minute mark Lee Milburn was put through to score Coxhoe's opener following some superb work from Jack Stonely. Connor Athey continues to impress since signing from Durham County and got himself on the score sheet to double Coxhoe's lead on 14 minutes. When Macauley Smith made it 3-0 at 26 minutes it looked as if Coxhoe may run away with the game but Whitburn had other ideas and scored in the following minute. The second half was a tight affair with both teams playing quality football but no more goals were forthcoming and the victory was Coxhoe's. There were so many excellent individual performances on the Coxhoe team that selecting a man of the match award was proving difficult so the Whitburn manager was asked and he selected Macauley Smith. The lads are starting to turn their home ground into something of a fortress with an impressive record of 4 wins in as many games with 10 scored and only 3 conceded.

Middlesborough Girls v Coxhoe United
Coxhoe started the game well and put pressure on the M'boro defence from the start. Bethney Garner and Jodie Borthwick used the ball well and Bethney Beecham closed down the defence quickly. Coxhoe were unlucky to go 1 down after 7 minutes when against the run of play the ball was knocked forward and past our last defender with the striker one on one with the keeper. Katie came out quickly but was unable to stop the low drive to her right. M'boro then made it two nil a minute later with a similar move. Half time came and Coxhoe continued to press after the restart. Coxhoe won a free kick which Emily Stores took but it flew just over the bar. Coxhoe continued to make all the play and in the final minute had a corner which Bethney Garner drove into the box but no one was able to get the final touch and the game finished 2 - 0 to M'boro.

Cestria v Coxhoe United
Coxhoe went into the game after losing 10 - nil to Cestria last time out. The started well but soon fell to a well worked goal form Cestria's no 9. Two minutes later and they had doubled the score with the same player. Hayley Bargh was given the job of marking the striker and the flow of the game changed with Coxhoe having much more possession. The girls worked their socks off but were unable to prevent Cestria going 3 - 0 up just before half time when a low drive managed to find its way through Katie Robson's legs. The second half started with a few changed to our formation and Megan Vasey slotting back into left back and Emily going to right back. Coxhoe defended well and Katie made a number of great saves to prevent Cestria going further ahead. Coxhoe were struggling to make headway in front of Cestria's goal so Emily was pushed forward and Jodie dropped into defence. This gave Coxhoe more of a presence up front and it was not long before Emily came close to scoring only to put the shot just wide. Cestria broke just before full time down the right and played a lovely ball cross field to a player on the left just inside the box. The shot looked a certain goal only for Megan Vasey to clear off the line. brave performance form all the girls.

This was always going to be a hard game as Hilda Park are top of the league . The girls were not expecting much from this game as they have been beaten easily every time they have met . However , Coxhoe did not let Hilda Park have their own way and battled for every ball . The midfield of Sophie Whiting, Catherine Dunne , Vanessa Stephenson and Kirsty Hodgson pressured for every ball and made some excellent passes up to Abigail Griffths who was unlucky not to score in the opening few minutes . Hilda Park were first to score with a messy goal which rebounded off Sophies leg as she tried to clear the goal line. However the heads did not go down and we were soon attacking again and Abigail finally put the ball in the back of the net . Coxhoe opened the scoring in an entertaining first half when Macauley Smith cut in from the left wing to fire the ball home. Their lead, however, didn't last long as Lumley scored an equaliser with a beautiful long range effort to make the score 1-1 at half time. In the second half Connor Athey was having another tremendous game and he scored Coxhoe's second when he cut in from the right wing to fire the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Lumley looked as if they were certain to equalise when a beautifully struck shot was heading towards the top left hand corner of the net but Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net pulled off a stunning save to maintain the home side's advantage. Coxhoe's goal machine, Lee Milburn, put the game beyond Lumley's reach when he put the ball into the net following a goalmouth scramble.

Coxhoe United Lions vs Whitburn
With 3 players missing including our regular goalkeeper it was always going to be a difficult day for the Lions, however Cameron stepped in to the keepers slot as we only had 7 players for the game. We carried on from last weeks performance and started the match brightly with some good passing the thru the midfield and any chances that Whitburn created were snuffed out by Keiran and Jordan at the back. It looked like it was going to be another one of those days in front of goal as a couple of our early chances went begging. It was Whitburn who started to get back into the game and scored the first goal which they followed up with a second just before half time as we began to tire. The half time break was well deserved and with more words of encouragement the same team went out for the second half, Max as usual never stopped running in the midfield and was well supported by James and Lewis M with McKenzie up front causing more problems for the Whitburn defence. Again we created a hat full of chances with the post, the Whitburn keeper and some unlucky deflections all stopping us form getting that elusive goal - as we pressed forward the ball broke clear to Keiran just inside his own half to hit a shot that looked like it was heading for the goal when it bounced over the keeper, but as our luck just keeps getting worse it bounced just wide and as we began to tire they broke forward to score a third goal. However a fantastic performance and work rate from every player, once we get 1 goal we will get a hat full - keep up the good work.

The second half was exciting end to end football; Lewis Jowett hit a tremendous shot, which rattled the post. Bowburn equalised early in the second half with a well-taken goal. The second half flowed in a similar manner to the first with the Trimdon keeper making two important saves first from Hayley and then from Bethney Garner. Coxhoe were playing the top team for the second time in three weeks. Coxhoe started the game well with pressure on the Deerness goal. Deerness were down to 6 players and were working hard in midfield and defence to stop Coxhoe playing. Coxhoe were unable to break the deadlock with the Deerness keeper playing well. The second half saw Coxhoe push further up the pitch and began to leave gaps at the back as they tried to break through the solid defence. Mid way through the second half Deerness broke free and managed to get 2 on 1 and slotted the ball home. With little time left Coxhoe threw everything forward. They pushed everyone forward except Emily and with only 2 minutes left were awarded a corner. The ball was played into the box and cleared by Deerness but only as far as Megan Vasey who dribbled past one player and managed to roll the pall past the keeper and in off the far post. Beth Vasey in defence had an outstanding game controlling the area with a dominance beyond her years. Coxhoe played the game with a new determination and had many shots on goal. Coxhoe were without their regular goalkeeper and Beth Vasey volunteered to step into the dreaded position. She had very very little to do in this match as the rest of the team kept the ball away from the goal area. Katie Hubery and Ashleigh Stores played soundly in defence, with Ashleigh having her best ever game for Coxhoe. The midfield controlled the play and sent some fantastic balls forward for Abigail Griffiths to shot at goal. This was a lovely game to watch with the girls showing a new found confidence.

Herrington Blues v Coxhoe United - League Cup
Coxhoe started the match in a disappointing manner sitting back and letting Herrington apply constant pressure. They were punished after 10 minutes when a well delivered free kick by the ever dangerous Herrington number 10 was placed into the Coxhoe area. The ball was initially cleared by Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net but the follow up resulted in a Herrington goal. Although the goal seemed to spark Coxhoe up they but were still a shadow of themselves in previous weeks. The half time team talk seemed to work as Coxhoe started to attack and in the 49th minute a looping shot by Jordan Woodward found the back of the Herrington net and the game was forced into extra time. It looked as if the game was going to have to be decided by penalties but Herrington scored late into the second period to make the final score 2-1 in the Blues favour.

City of Durham Storm v Coxhoe United
Coxhoe went into the game against City of Durham Storm in positive mood even without last year's player of the season Chris Cartner. Jack Stoneley managed to recover from a nasty bug to have an outstanding game in the heart of defence alongside James 'the mangler' Marshall. Coxhoe took the lead after a Durham challenge on Lee Milburn led to a sublime Macauley Smith penalty. Durham equalized from a corner but then a defence splitting pass from Evan Teggert, playing a more central role this season, led to a belting effort from 30 yards from Macauley to put Utd 2-1 up. Durham equalized late in the first half with a fine flowing effort finished off by the tricky No 4.After the break Durham managed to go into the lead against the run of play and even after some sustained pressure from the right hand side and the excellent Kori and new boy Connor on the left, Durham managed to hold out for probably an undeserved win. Jordan, Kori and Lee all going extremely close in the last 10 minutes with Jason Jones untroubled in the Utd goal. All in all a terrific performance - probably the best of the season, which delighted Steven and Kevin but an unlucky defeat: Carry on that effort lads and we'll start shooting up the league!

Coxhoe face Trimdon for the first time and antisipation was high with Trimdon down to 6 players from the start. Coxhoe started well and pressed the ball with Megan,Hayley and Bethney Garner linking well. The whole Trimdon team defended well and restriced Coxhoe to long-rage chances from outside the box with the keeper managing to hold on to everything. The second half saw Trimdon change keepers but still Coxhoe could not force the ball over the line. As Coxhoe pushed forward they left gaps at the back and Trimdon almost capitalised when a forward siezed on a mistake in our defence which allowed her to run from 30yrd out 1 on 1 with our keeper. Katie Robson however rushed out to challenge the forward and cleared the ball from just outside our box. Bethney Garner put a number of good crosses into the box the best being in the last minute with Hayley Barge running in from the left hand side however she was unable to connect with the ball seeing it go out for a throw in. Coxhoe United v Waldridge Park Blues
The Under 12s first home game of the season was a hugely entertaining game in a first ever league meeting with Waldridge Park Blues. Coxhoe started brightly and came close to scoring after only 3 minutes through Macauley Smith but the Waldridge keeper made the first of many good saves of the day. Waldridge pushed forward and would have taken the lead after 8 minutes, were not for a brilliant save from Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net. He again saved Coxhoe after 13 minutes with another tremendous save. Coxhoe were playing a new formation with Chris Cartner down the left wing and Elliott Smith playing a Heskey like role supporting the ever dangerous Lee Milburn up front. It payed dividends after 20 minutes when Chris Cartner's long range drive hit the bar and Elliott Smith was there to cap his best ever performance in a Coxhoe shirt with a goal. Macauley Smith nearly doubled Coxhoe's lead 3 minutes later but yet another piece of goalkeeping brilliance kept the ball out and 2 minutes later Waldridge came close to an equaliser when they hit the Coxhoe Post.In the second half there were fewer chances but Waldridge continued to push for the equaliser but the Coxhoe defence were up to the job and left Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net an easier half.

A new season and a new look team for the Lions with 6 new faces coming into the team, this was our first league game and with limited friendlies before the start of the season it was always going to be difficult start with only 8 players, 25mins each way and on a hot day we began the league season against Easington Kites. The early stages of the game we quite even with both sides getting used to playing competitive football again, we worked hard for the first 10 mins but when we failed to clear a long ball Easington picked up on it and opened the scoring. A very good defensive performance from the new pairing of Jordan and Cameron at back with the ever reliable Mark in goal kept Easington at bay and after a couple of changes we started to play some nice football approaching the half time whistle with Kieran, James & Lewis combining nicely with Max up front to create our first chances of the game but the score remained 1-0 at half time. The second half saw us come more into the game as we put pressure on the Easington defence and with McKenzie now back up front we grew strongly with shots from Kieran, Cameron and Max going close to our first goal of the campaign however Easington doubled there lead about half way thru' the second half. As we pressed forward to get back in the game it was end to end football with some fine saves from Mark keeping us in the game, however as we began to tire we couldn't prevent 2 break away goals at the end of the game to give Easington a flattering 4-0 win. The second half was very similar to the first with Byers putting even more pressure on Coxhoe. The last five minutes saw Coxhoe come into the game more but couldn't force an equaliser.

A good display for the first game of the season. Slow to start and we were taken aback by East Durham lack of pace. This resulted in a slow game first half. Lots of chances for Coxhoe down the right and left but no one able to finish. Well taken goal by Bethney Garner just before half time. Coxhoe again made all the running in the second half with Elizabeth forcing home a cross from Bethney Garner five minutes from time. The girls sat back a little after the second goal and allowed East Durham a soft goal two minutes from time. Over all a good start to the season and a big improvement on last year.

The girls were under a lot more pressure in the second game with Ferryhill Town coming out all guns blazing. Playing uphill and into the wind did not help and Ferryhill had all the play for the first 5 minutes. Coxhoe finally forced the game and won a couple of corners midway into the first half and the game flowed back and forth until 2 minutes from half time when a hopeful cross from the right was deflested into the Coxhoe goal by Jodie. The girls picked themselves up and battled well until half time. The second half saw Coxhoe dominate the play in the Ferryhill half and although they had a number of good chances and goalmouth scrambles they could not force the ball over the line. About 7 minutes into the second half Coxhoe won another corner on the right, however the cross was cleared only to fall to Emily Stores 10 yards outside the box. She looked up and blasted the ball which flew into the top left hand corner of the goal. Elizabeth Brown replaced Kathryn Dowson to give a more physical presence up front for the last 5 minutes but could not gat the equaliser. It was a hard fought game which could hasve gone either way.

Coxhoe v Hilda Park
First match of the season and what a good start to the season . Coxhoe lost this fixture 15-0 last year, so it was a great improvement. We had a number of new players to the team who fitted in nicely and worked well . The more experienced players showed them great support and helped them through their first league match. All we asked of the girls was that they played hard and tried their best . Usually l can pick out certain players who shine in the match , but this is not the case . All the girls gave 110% on a very hot morning and the coaches and parents could not have asked anything more of them . Well done !!!!!!!

Tuesday 4th September saw a midweek fixture for the under 11, 11/side team away to East Durham. Brimming with confidence after Sunday's performance, the boys opened the scoring within 1 minute through Alex McGrath. Two more followed from Andrew Simpson and Cameron Holdsworth but just on the stroke of half time East Durham clawed one back to make it 1-3.Coxhoe had to absorb more pressure in the second half ultimately resulting in another Durham goal, but the comfort zone was restored by 2 James Gilson goals.

The under 12s first fixture of the season saw them away in the first ever meeting with Seaham Redstar. The first half was a very evenly matched affair but it was Seaham who gained the advantage 23 minutes into the game when the Coxhoe defence failed to clear from a corner and were punished with a superbly struck shot from outside the box which gave Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net no chance. In the second half Coxhoe spent long periods in the Seaham half pushing for the equaliser but Seaham again struck the back of the Coxhoe net after a break which left the final score a rather flattering 2-0 to Seaham.

This season will prove to be a real test for this team. Not only have they achieved promotion into the 1st division after last season's excellent performance, but they have also made the step up to 11/side.If that wasn't enough to cope with, the 1st match was away to the formidable Swalwell Juniors. This proved to be a very entertaining and hard fought match with great performances from both sides, ultimately resulting in a point for both teams.
