News and Events

Coxhoe United had a Great North Run 2010!

In 1968 Andy Warhol said "In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."  Well in September of 2010 46 runners from Coxhoe Utd unintentionally went some way to bring his prediction to fruition and in doing so left themselves 14 ½ minutes each to use at a later date.

The runners; 14 Mini and 32 Junior runners formed the largest group of runners at this years Mini & Junior Great North Run and generated local and national media interest.  The boys and girls aged between 4 – 15 years appeared on BBC's CCBC Newsround, were mentioned in reports in The Journal, The Durham Times and of course Coxhoe Chronicle along with messages of support from Peter Beardsley for Newcastle United and Nial Quinn, the Chairman of Sunderland AFC. Fortunately their feet are still firmly on the ground, even if they are a little sore from the event which managed to raise over £2,000 for the club.

All of the runners had a really fantastic time on Saturday 18th September with the 14 mini runners (aged 4 – 8) running 1 mile on the morning and the 32 juniors (aged 9 - 15) running 3 miles on the afternoon. The weather was on our side (for once) and there was a real carnival atmosphere.  Take a look at the guestbook for further comments.
The coaches & parents that attended enjoyed it immensely, indeed some were so inspired by the grit and determination of the youngsters that they vowed to take part in the half marathon next year…..watch this space!

Everyone at the club thanks the coaches, parents and in particular the runners for coming together to support the club. WELL DONE! We are really proud of you all.
