TUESDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 2009
COXHOE UNITED 6 - LUMLEY FC 0

Coxhoe Under 14s entertained Lumley in their opening home fixture at the impressive Beechfield Stadium. From the start it was obvious that an impressive Mark Pickering was going to cause the Lumley defence all kinds of problems with his strength and speed. However the game was held up for several minutes early on after a nasty injury to one of the Lumley boys. On the restart Mark Pickering opened on 10 minutes and doubled the score after 20 minutes. A brilliant piece of skill by new boy Sam Hepple on 32 minutes made it 3-0 going into the half time break.

The second half was much the same with Mark getting his 3rd and 4th goals after 39 & 47 minutes and the ever dependable Jordan Woodward opening his seasons account on 58 minutes.

The most pleasing aspect of the game was the way the new boys are settling into the team with Rees Blackett looking solid at right back, Sam Hepple composed up front and Lewis Cotterill a real handful. Coupled with the fact that Fergus Watson & Mark Pickering enjoyed their best ever performances in Coxhoe shirts it was decided the man of the match award should go to the whole team.

Goals:- Mark Pickering x 4, Sam Hepple, Jordan Woodward

SOUTH TYNESIDE DRAGONS V COXHOE UNITED

Postponement requested by Coxhoe, but match awarded 1-0 to South Tyneside by Russell Foster League

TUESDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER 2009
TYNESIDE JUNIORS 5 - COXHOE UNITED 1

Coxhoe’s under 14s visited South Tyneside for the first ever meeting between the two teams.

The Tyneside boys showed their intent as early as the 3rd minute when they forced the first corner of the match which was dealt with by the Coxhoe defence.

Man of the match Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net made an excellent save on 7 minutes when a Tyneside striker broke through in a 1 on 1 situation. Tyneside kept up the pressure and hit the woodwork on 13 minutes. Coxhoe were having real problems breaking out of their own half and when they did they faced a

highly organised, strong Tyneside defence. It wasn’t until the 31st minute that Coxhoe managed a strike on goal. Johnny Hocke’s effort was dealt with by the Tyneside goalkeeper. Coxhoe’s hopes of holding out until half time were dealt a blow when Tyneside opened the scoring on 33 minutes.

Moving into the second half and any hopes of a loosening of Tyneside’s grip on the game were dashed after only 7 minutes after kick off. Worse was to come with further goals for the home side 15 & 30 minutes into the half.

Coxhoe tried a variety of formations to deal with problems posed by the home side but when they dropped Mark Pickering back to beef up the midfield with his size and strength it paid off. He broke through and blasted a screamer from outside the box into the back of the Tyneside net.

Not to be outdone Tyneside scored a stunning goal late in the game to make the final score 5 1 in the home side’s favour.

Goal:- Mark Pickering

COXHOE UNITED 0 - ST. JOSEPHS 3

Coxhoe’s under 14s entertained St Josephs at a sun drenched Beechfield Park. It was St Josephs who started the brighter in the opening minutes of the match. It was ten minutes into the game before Coxhoe finally had an attempt on goal with a long range effort from Mark Pickering. St Josephs then applied the pressure and were unlucky not to take the lead after good work down the left which resulted in a powerful shot across the Coxhoe goal. Throughout the half Coxhoe looked lethargic and this was not helped when experienced midfielder Jordan Woodward aggravated an old foot injury and had to come off. As St Josephs continued to apply the pressure Coxhoe were restricted to odd breaks on the opposition goal and such a break on 23 minutes nearly opened the scoring but Mark Pickering’s effort went over the bar. On the half hour mark Jason Jones produced a great save and the loose ball was kicked behind by man of the match Jack Stoneley. The resulting corner was cleanly held by the Coxhoe stopper. A minute before the half time whistle a St Josephs striker broke through the Coxhoe defence and fired home the opening goal of the match.

Into the second half and the Coxhoe midfield was further weakened when Johnny Hocke suffered a groin strain. St Josephs really started to dominate the game and had a powerful shot deflected on 43 minutes and a shot from the resulting corner went wide. Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net was having a very busy game and he produced a stunning save when he parried a superbly struck shot passed his post. He could do nothing about the second St Josephs goal after a goalmouth scramble 15 minutes before the end. It was at this point that Coxhoe enjoyed their best spell of the game however it was St Josephs who further added to the scoreline with an injury time goal to make it 0-3. The referee blew the full time whistle to end an utterly miserable day for Coxhoe.

MoM: Jack Stoneley

COXHOE UNITED 0 - LAMBTON LIONS 4

United’s under 14 boys entertained Lambton Lions at the Beechfield ground. They were looking to put an end to their poor run of form which has seen them slide down Division One. Lambton are a very dangerous team and have already demolished a couple of teams 17-1 and 8-0 this season so the Coxhoe lads knew they were going to be at their best to get anything from the game.

After a promising start it started to go wrong when the visitors took the lead on 16 minutes following some good work down the left.

On 18 minutes Coxhoe brought on their new signing Jordan Gavin hoping his whippet like pace would cause a few problems in the Lambton ranks. On 27 minutes Jason Jones in the Coxhoe net pulled off a great save but a Lambton striker pounced on the loose ball to make it 2-0 going into the break.

On the 42 minute mark Jason Jones produced another great save as Lambton looked to run away with the game. Eight minutes later Coxhoe had their first real effort on goal but the Lambton keeper produced an excellent save to deny Evan Teggert.

The game was put out of Coxhoe’s reach when the visitors scored a third on 53 minutes and a fourth in the dying seconds of the game to make the final score a disappointing 0-4 in the favour of the visitors.

MoM: Johnny Hocke

SUNDAY 11TH OCTOBER 2009
BYERS GREEN BOYS 5 - COXHOE UNITED 0

Byres Green attacked from the off and very nearly took the lead in the first minute but the strike flew passed the post. Byres continued to press throughout the opening minutes. On the 15 minute mark Coxhoe got into the Byres area and there was a goalmouth scramble however Byres quickly broke away and scored the opener. They doubled the lead on the half hour mark when the Byres right winger made a tremendous run down the right wing and made a superb cross for a striker to bang into the back of the Coxhoe net. They very nearly had a third two minutes later but Coxhoe’s Jason Jones pulled off a magnificent save parrying the ball past his left post to keep the score 2-0 going into the half time break.

For the opening 15 minutes of the second half it was Coxhoe who dominated play but their only real chance was a Johnny Hocke strike which went narrowly over the bar. It was not to be Coxhoe’s day as Byres Green used their excellent pace to break away grab the third.

Coxhoe’s cause was not helped when their left back Chris Cartner had to be taken off with a rib injury followed by their man of the match Mark Pickering with an ankle injury. Two Byres Green goals in the last ten minutes of the match completed the rout.

MoM: Mark Pickering.
