FIXTURES AND RESULTS
SATURDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2009
COXHOE UNITED 2 - BARNES ANGELS 0
A magnificent opening to the season for the girls as they got off to a flying start!
They commenced confidently and took control early on with some searching balls from Shannon, Bethany G. and Ashleigh finding their way to the feet of both Emily and Abigail, initially however Barnes Angels defence coped admirably, but cracks were beginning to show as Coxhoe kept the pressure on the opposition. Half way through the first half Shannon took a crack at goal which ricocheted off the oppositions defence; luckily Abigail was on hand to slot the ball into the left hand corner of the goal.
Barnes Angels made some forays into Coxhoe’s half, however these were clinically dealt with by our reliable defenders Hayley, Bethany B. and Megan and the shots on goal that did get through were safely dealt with by our goalie for the first half Elizabeth, who really impressed.
The second half saw our regular goalie Katie take to the pitch and continue the good example that Elizabeth showed in the first. With a safe pair of hands and a strong defence Coxhoe rarely lost control of the game. Ten minutes into the second half and Barnes Angels surged forward testing our defence, Hayley more than capably took care of the attack and initiated a counter attack which resulted in a cross which fell to Shannon’s feet, a trademark blistering shot followed that proved impossible to stop.
Both teams seem to tire later in the game as the heat and the longer game tested their fitness to the limit, nonetheless they both soldiered on with the score remaining the same until the referee blew time.
An excellent result for the girls, with the whole team putting in maximum effort, well done!

COXHOE UNITED 0 - BIRTLEY TOWN LADIES 7
The second home game of the season proved to be a testing one against a strong Birtley side.
Coxhoe girls started shakily against a confident Birtley team who took command of the game from the offset. They broke through and scored an early goal which Coxhoe appealed for as offside but was given by the referee.
The early to middle of the half saw Birtley go from strength to strength, consolidating their lead by a further 3 goals, despite valiant efforts from Jordan who harried their attacks and Elizabeth in goal who bravely made a series of dramatic saves and definitely abated further goals from being scored in the first half.
The latter part of the first half saw Coxhoe shift up a gear and they powered through Birtley’s defence on a number of occasions with Bethney B making a well timed cross to Abigail who made a strong challenge along with a fantastic run and strike which passed within centimetres of the goal line. Coxhoe persisted in applying the pressure and three strikes from Emily, Shannon and Abigail followed in quick succession, unfortunately luck was not on our side and while all came close, we could not convert.
The second half seemed to be a repeat of the first, again with Birtley scoring early on and despite Hayley, Megan and Jordan courageous efforts in defence and Elizabeth parrying a number of shots Birtley managed to score another two goals. However Coxhoe boldly battled on with Bethany G making some lovely crosses in from the wing, but Birtley continued to close on any forward incursions by Coxhoe’s midfield.
Refusing to give up Coxhoe again came back with a streaking dash by Abigail and a thumping strike by Shannon which ricocheted off the post. Two further attempts by Abigail and Emily were deflected by Birtley’s goalie. The game ended with a score line that while deservedly won by a strong Birtley side did not truly reflect Coxhoe’s efforts.

LEAGUE CUP 1st ROUND
Through to the Next Round
SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER 2009
COXHOE UNITED 3 - CONSETT AFC
JUNIORS 0
At the start of the first half the teams looked evenly matched with some good efforts by both sides, however Coxhoe’s strong back line of Megan, Hayley and Elizabeth were more than capable of holding Consett at bay and the odd shot on goal was comfortably saved by Katie. Midfield players Bethany G, Shannon and Bethney B, played some strong football with some penetrating crosses finding the feet of both Emily and Abigail which unfortunately did not quite find their mark. Late in the half saw some sturdy runs on goal by both Abigail and Shannon which were deflected by Consett’s goalie.
Second half Coxhoe started revitalised by what must have been a highly inspirational team talk from the coaches. A commanding Coxhoe confronted Consett’s caution, commencing a cross catapulted under the crossbar by a contented Shannon within the first five minutes of play. Two minutes later saw Shannon again making a strong run from midfield and again blasting a shot into the back of Consett’s goal. This seemed to motivate Coxhoe who continued to play some lovely football.
Ashleigh who replaced Elizabeth at right back at the start of the second half, carried on the good work with Hayley and Megan; who were a force to be reckoned with and proved to be strong and thoughtful in defence throughout. Katie also continued with impressive form making some great saves and keeping a clean sheet.
Abigail and Emily both made some good attempts on goal, following a solid display and good crosses from Bethany & Bethney, but luck was just not on their side.
Late in the second half saw Bethany G’s hard work and stamina pay off when she crossed in a beautiful ball from a corner which found Shannon who tapped the ball in for a well deserved hat trick.
Today was a good result for the girls, who could have scored more.

HEBBURN TOWN DAMES 4- COXHOE UNITED 4
Today’s match proved to be the most exciting and competitive of the season to date.
Hebburn started strongly and caught Coxhoe a little off guard within the first few minutes and capitalised by breaking through and despite Katy’s best efforts scored an early goal, in so doing, throwing down the gauntlet to Coxhoe who needed to positively react.
Coxhoe commenced confidently, causing considerable chaos, containing the competition comprehensibly. Any forays forward by Hebburn were quashed by the robust defence of Hayley, Emily and Megan who pushed the ball forward to Shannon in midfield who in turn knocked the ball on ahead for Abigail. Initially the ball looked to be too far ahead of the Coxhoe striker, however she blazed a trail to the ball, and surprising Hebburn’s goalie, she struck the ball into the left hand corner of the goal.
The balance of belief seemed to be tipping more and more in Coxhoe’s favour with surefooted displays from both Ashleigh and Elizabeth ensuring the ball rarely made it into Coxhoe’s defence and when the opportunity arose more midfield magic between Shannon and Bethany G opened another opportunity causing Hebburn to give away a corner. The corner was expertly taken by Bethany G who hung the ball clinically into the opposition box, in the ensuing battle Abigail manage to control the ball with ability that Maradonna himself would be proud of, then calmly chipped the ball into the goal. Heads now held high, Coxhoe seemed be the more commanding side and from Hebburn’s spot kick they quickly took possession Ashleigh threading the ball through to Shannon who took the ball past two of Hebburn’s players before blasting a low shot from distance into Hebburn’s goal.
Coxhoe were now riding high and possibly let their guard down somewhat, enabling a sustained attack from the opposition in the closing minutes. While sturdy defensive moves from both Megan and Hayley saw most of the opposition sorties came to nothing, Katy also had to make some magnificent saves. Coxhoe then pushed forward but were caught on the break by a determined Hebburn who managed to break through and shoot, Katy managed to make an incredible dive, getting her hand to the ball, knocking it tantalisingly towards the right hand post, both defence and strikers raced to the ball and in the ensuing struggle the ball eventually found the back of Coxhoe’s net leaving it 3 – 2 to Coxhoe at half time.
The second half saw Coxhoe eager to carry on their excellent performance with Bethney B and Jordan, taking over the hard work initiated by Ashleigh and Elizabeth. Indeed the first part of the second half saw some thoughtful teamwork with the Megan, Hayley and Emily cutting off opposition challenges threading the ball through to Shannon in midfield who deftly held the ball up, passing to Bethany G who made some marvellous crosses into the oppositions danger zone, alas to no avail. Then following a similar attack from Hebburn Jordan made a break up the right wing the ball finding Abigail just over the half way line, she took the ball with speed, outrunning Hebburn’s defence she knocked the ball wide of the keeper into the goal.
At 4 -2 we thought it was all over bar the shouting; however a brave Hebburn refused to surrender and found their way through to score midway through the second half, causing Coxhoe to become unsettled giving the opposition the chance to further capitalise 10 minutes before the end with an equaliser. Coxhoe stood their ground and made a couple of attacks on Hebburn’s goal in the dying minutes, however the game ended in a draw.

COXHOE UNITED 3 - HEBBURN TOWN 2
Cup Game, we played the same team last week in the League, Hebburn, which resulted in a draw. The girls went out today to win and win they did. It was a dark miserable morning but the girls soon lifted our spirits with another thoroughly enjoyable morning of football. Both teams very keen from the kick off which created a very fast paced game. Our defence was solid with Hayley and Megan cutting off the Hebburn girls from the outset and Katie making some wonderful saves and implementing some powerful goal kicks. The defence continued this course of action throughout the game.
Midfield started with Lilly, Ashley, Bethany B and Shannon who played some mature football continually pressurising the ball and effecting some lovely passes up front to Emily and Abigail, which created two lovely goals from Emily and Shannon.
At half time the score was 2-2 and saw a fresh pair of midfield legs Bethany G whose strength and pace helped to up our game, shortly into the second half another goal from Emily that no goalie was going to stop, it was a cracker !
The girls worked hard and deserved the win, the team had a great sense of team spirit and it shows in their game. Keep up the great work girls.
Congratulations, you’re through to the Cup semi-finals.
WOM Emily Stores.
SATURDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2009
COXHOE UNITED 1 - HOUGHTON ALBION FC 3
After a weeks rest we were expecting big things from the girls against a team, who on paper seemed equally matched, however the torrential rain over the previous day might not do us any favours.
At kick off it was touch and go whether the match was going to be abandoned the ground was extremely wet and the ball difficult to control. Houghton started strong, however were kept at bay by Megan, Hayley and Ashleigh in defence and Elizabeth in goal who made some impressive saves. Houghton kept up the attack and despite our best efforts and some strong play from Bethney B, Bethany G and some sturdy attacks from new signing Kennedy, Shannon and Abigail the opposition were two goals up at half time, one of which was the result of a penalty. Elizabeth made a wonderfully spectacular penalty save, however Houghton managed to score from the following scrabble to clear the ball from the line.
The second half saw a glimmer of hope when some good movement forward saw Shannon make a characteristic cannonball of a shot into the opposition net. The fight back had started. Throughout the second half Kennedy made strong forays into the oppositions half supported by Shannon and Abigail but unfortunately we could not convert. Emily came on at half time and a fresh pair of legs certainly helped, however with Coxhoe tiring late in the half due to the boggy conditions Houghton capitalized on their lead with another goal, putting the win beyond doubt.
WOM Kennedy Houston.
SATURDAY 28TH NOVEMBER 2009
Coxhoe United 3 - Houghton Albion 1
What a difference a fortnight makes! In a reversal of fortunes from their last meeting Coxhoe played their hearts out to comprehensively beat Houghton in this semi-final cup game.
The whole team constantly harried their opponents from the first whistle to the last. Despite a strong start Houghton managed to score first, however Coxhoe answered with a lovely goal by Bethany Garner to even then score. Solid defending from Hayley, Jordan and Megan ensured that Houghton rarely had shots on goal and the ones that did get through were taken care of by goalie Katie. In midfield Elizabeth did a great job of containing Houghtons’ number 8 and Shannon, Bethney B, Ashleigh, Bethany G and Kennedy, played and passed with great skill, with striker Abigail’s lightning speed stretching Houghtons’ defence. Kennedy powered through late in the 1st half with a lovely well placed strike to take Coxhoe into the lead.
In the second half Coxhoe played with the same strength and tenacity as the first keeping Houghton flustered. Coxhoe never gave them space to manoeuvre while constantly making thoughtful passing moves into Houghtons half. This was rewarded with Abigail beating both defenders to take the third and final goal.
WELL DONE GIRLS!!
CUP FINAL HERE WE COME!!

SATURDAY 6TH MARCH 2010
Coxhoe United 3 - Houghton Albion 2
Well it has been a while, what with all the snow and rain, however the under 14 girls are back playing again.
The first halve saw a shaky start from Coxhoe as Houghton started with a quick attack on goal that fortunately hit the woodwork. Coxhoe regrouped and started to match the home side physicality with strong defending from Hayley, Megan and Emily. Midway through the first half we started making inroads down both wings with some strong tackles coming from Bethany G and Ashleigh, however it was a lovely searching ball from Shannon in midfield that found Kennedy who beat the opposition off side trap to confidently steer Coxhoe into the lead at half time.
The second half saw Coxhoe start a lot stronger with confident passing and strong challenges from all the team, Bethany B, and Shannon played some lovely football in midfield causing Houghton defence a lot of headaches. They were rewarded for their hard work when Shannon broke through to blast an unstoppable shot passed Houghton goalie. Throughout the game our goalkeeper Elizabeth made some impressive saves and really worked hard to keep a clean sheet, however Houghton had strong surge midway through the second half which saw them pull a goal back. Coxhoe replied defiantly five minutes later with a fantastic team effort which saw the ball landing at the feet of Shannon who quickly despatched it into the back of Houghton’s net. With all their hard work Coxhoe grew a little weary in the latter stages of the second half which allowed Houghton to snatch a goal in the dying minutes, however as the game drew to a close it was Coxhoe who were victorious with a well deserved win.

SATURDAY 13TH MARCH 2010
Nissan U14 Girls 14 – Coxhoe Utd 0
The Nissan team is currently top of the girls’ league with an astonishing 120 goal difference and are 17 points ahead of their closest competitor, this indicates their dominance over this league and probably signifies that they may need to look for challenges in higher leagues that could test and push them further. With this in mind we were expecting a tough match, and that’s exactly what we got.
From the outset Nissan dominated, despite Coxhoe working their socks off they could not find their way through Nissans defence, but despite Coxhoe’s best efforts Nissan strength saw them 6 up at half time.
Despite the events of the first half Coxhoe kept their heads up and again worked arduously to try to create chances, on two or three occasions we managed to get close to goal, but could not convert. Nissan sought out and exploited every chance on goal seeing them score 8 more in the second half. Coxhoe really tried their hearts out and the supporters were really proud of all of the teams efforts.

SATURDAY 20TH MARCH 2010
Coxhoe Utd 1 - Washington Juniors - 3
It was a bit on the soggy side this morning. Cold wet and windy, perfect football weather.
Coxhoe started confidently and both teams seemed evenly matched, Washington managed to slip through to go one up early on. Coxhoe then responded positively and managed to put some lovely passes together down the right wing which saw Kennedy deliver two fantastic shots on goal, one rattled off the post and the other just over the top. Washington remained one up at half time.
The second half saw Coxhoe start the stronger side with defence, midfield and forwards working in unison to cohesively pass the ball which saw them take advantage again down the right hand side. Kennedy again struck a lovely shot on target which was parried by the Washington goalie, this time it fell at the feet of Abigail who managed to slot the ball home. The score remained the same with the teams evenly matched for the majority of the half, however late on, as the heavy ground started to take its toll, Washington managed to score two more goals putting the result beyond doubt.

Coxhoe Utd 0 – Nissan 10.
After the defeat the girls took a fortnight ago 14-0 to Nissan they were not looking forward to this game however, the girls played at home and had an excellent positive start to the game but Nissan soon showed their strengths. The girls battled on throughout the whole game in heavy muddy conditions. Whilst we had a couple of shots on goal it was not meant to be. Well done to all the under 14’s girls who showed great team spirit and conducted themselves in a mature and professional manner in what they knew was going to be a hard match.

Barnes Angels – 0 Coxhoe Utd – 4
This was one of our midweek
fixtures to enable us to catch up games.
From the outset it was plain to see that
Coxhoe were the stronger side, the girls in defence rebuffed every foray on our goal.
Midfield made some lovely flowing passes allowing the girls up front to do what comes
naturally. Kennedy managed to put some lovely shots in on goal, which resulted in
a hat –trick and Emily managed to score a remarkable goal from near the halfway line.
This was a solid performance from all the team.

Washington Juniors – 1 Coxhoe Utd - 0
The following midweek
fixture was on the other side of Sunderland this time.
This match was fairly evenly
matched, both sides defended strongly, passed well in midfield and the girls upfront
made some energetic attempts on goal, however it was the opposition who managed to
convert their chances into a goal. Lady luck was not on our side and despite numerous
endeavours we could not get one in the back of the net.

SATURDAY 17TH APRIL 10
Coxhoe Utd – 1 East Durham – 6
From the outset this was quite
a tough match which was marred by some unsporting tactics from the opposition, which
earned them a strong rebuke from their coach. The first half saw some thoughtful
play from Coxhoe with the defence reacting decisively. Midfield used speed and accurate
passing of the ball down the wings to feed the strikers, however we could not transfer
any of our chances into goals. The opposition however managed to score before half
time.
The second half saw a quick 2nd goal from East Durham. Coxhoe dug in and were
rewarded with a goal by Kennedy and things started to look up, however the girls
seemed to become unsettled, which allowed the opposition to capitalise and score
another four goals.
