Match Reports 2011/2012 Season

Coxhoe United 6 v Plains Farm 4 ( 28th Jan 2012) Cup

This was a very important game for the girls as this was the first round of the Cup Shield. We were also playing one of the best teams in the league who have already beaten the team this season. Coxhoe went out strong  trying to not let Plains Farm settle and this resulted in the first goal in the first five minutes when Jess Hennessary took the ball on the edge of the box and took it round two players to find the back of the net. This was soon followed by our second goal which was hit beautifully by Chloe Jobling . Things looked good for Coxhoe but Plains Farm were not defeated yet and got the game back to 2_- 2 .  The girls now had to dig deep and show what they were made of. The defence worked very hard to stop the opposition getting a shot , paige Wilson had her best game of the season clearing everything that came anywhere near her , Beth Vasey in goal had a very confident game organising players into the positions that she wanted. The game then went Coxhoe ahead , Plains Farm equal untils it was 4-4. Then in the last ten minutes the girls took control and upped the pace with everyone giving all the had. Chloe was back to her scary self threating to score every time she touched the ball , resulting in the last two goals. The team showed that they can play under pressure , and can organise themselves without me and Michael shouting at them . A big thank you to the players who played in positions that they don’t like for the good of the team and a big thank you to the more experienced players for helping the less confident players through a tough but very exciting game. Well done everyone!!!!

Man of the match Chloe Jobling

Coxhoe United U14 Girls 7 v Darlington 1

The team started very uneasily after not playing since the beginning of December due to the weather. Darlington put a lot of pressure on our midfield and defence with Coxhoe looking panicky. However, we managed to keep a clean sheet and after about 20 minutes begun to settle and string some passes together and Jess and Faye began to cause problems down the right wing creating crosses into Chloe and Danika, which eventually Chloe managed to get into the net. Coxhoe where away now with goals for Jess and another for Chloe following shortly after. After 25mins some changes where made and this created even more attacking situations. Sophie W , Rachel and Aimmee drove the midfield forward with renewed attack resulting in another goalo from Sophie H.In the second half Coxhoe continued to push with excellent individual goals from Plern and Sophie H. The defence stayed focussed even with little to do , Beth in goal organised things from the back making sure there were few gaps for Darlington to break through. They did get one back helped by an unpredictable wind. In the last few minutes Sophie H got the ball on the edge of the box and took it past three defenders to get her first hat trick for the club.

Whitburn 4 - Coxhoe United U15’s 2

A bright start to 2012 from the U15 boys after a long Christmas break, but unfortunately unable to convert the majority of their chances they created.

Goals:- Dan, Curtis

Man of the Match:- Kieren Jowett

Sunday 4th December 2011

Westoe United 1 - Coxhoe United U15’s 3

Coxhoe got back on track today, taking the lead early in the first half when Westoe failed to deal with Lee’s long goal kick and Sam gathered the ball after it had bounced over the heads of the defensive line-up. Coxhoe continued to apply the pressure and had several more chances but were unable to extend the lead. Against the run of play Westoe grabbed an equaliser with 10 minutes left in the first half, one of only a handful of attacks they had, but Coxhoe continued to produce chances in the second half with Joe grabbing the second from Jamies corner kick and Dan wrapping it up after a glorious through-ball from Curtis.

Goals :- Sam, Joe, Dan

Man of the Match:- Jack

Coxhoe United U15’s 0 - Washington Juniors 11

Today’s match against league leaders was always going to be a tough challenge, but the strong wind played its part, with Coxhoe struggling to kick the ball out of their own half without the wind blowing it back again. Seven goals down at half time looked an impossible score line to turn around, but at least Coxhoe had the wind advantage in the second half - or so we thought. It started brightly enough with Coxhoe keeping the ball in their attacking areas, but the wind dropped after 10 minutes allowing Washington to pick up where they left off in the frst half.

Man Of the Match - Freddie.

Match  Report:

Date:   Saturday 26th November 2011

Venue:   Newbottle

Kick Off Time:   11.30pm

Coxhoe United U9’s   v   BD Plastics U9’s

Coxhoe Squad:

Tom, Nathan M, Josh C, Michael, James, Louis, Adam, Lucas, Jack, Josh E, Ned

A strong, blustery wind made for a difficult game of football for both teams today

BD Plastics were looking to strengthen their position at the top of the table and started the game with some attractive, attacking football........however, great defending by the Coxhoe boys as the first half was played mainly in the midfield areas

Good to see the Coxhoe boys learning from their mistakes of last week’s matches.....much better team work....defending as a unit.....talking to each other.....excellent stuff!!

Half Time 0-0

BD Plastics come on strong at the start of the second half......the wind at their backs....again, stout defending from all the Coxhoe boys

Special mention to Josh E as he makes two fantastic saves in quick succession, keeping the boys in the hunt

However, BD Plastics pressure leads to a fortuous goal that trickles into the net after coming off both posts......0-1 BD Plastics

More pressure from Plastics and another great save by Josh E

Full Time 0-1 BD Plastics

Much better display boys....they were a strong side....you would beat most teams playing as you did today

Saturday 19th November 2011

Match 1 Report:

Date:   Saturday 19th November 2011

Venue:   Newbottle

Kick Off Time:   12.30pm

Coxhoe United U9’s   v   Bowburn Athletic U9’s

Coxhoe Squad:

Tom, Nathan M, Josh C, Michael, James, Louis, Adam, Lucas, Jack

Coxhoe make a good start to the game with all making confident contributions. This confidence is rewarded after 5 minutes with an excellent left foot strike from Josh C....... 1-0 Coxhoe

This seemed to jolt Bowburn into action as they gradually found their stride and put Coxhoe under strong pressure. Only the good defending from Tom, Louis, Jack and Michael kept an increasingly confident Bowburn at bay

Half Time 1-0 Coxhoe

The second half starts as the first finished with Bowburn attacking at will...... great save from Nathan M to keep the lead in tact

Good contributions from James, Lucas and Adam but Bowburn pressure results in a fine goal..... 1-1

More pressure from Bowburn ...... another excellent save from Nathan M..... but another Bowburn attack leads to their second goal.......1-2  Bowburn

Final score 1-2 Bowburn

A lesson to learn boys is to work for each other....you’ve got to defend and attack as a team, not as individuals....teamwork will get you results

Match 2 Report:

Date:   Saturday 19th November 2011

Venue:   Newbottle

Kick Off Time:   1.30pm

Coxhoe United U9’s   v   Seaham U9’s

Coxhoe Squad:

Tom, Nathan M, Josh C, Michael, James, Louis, Adam, Lucas, Jack

A hangover from the first game sees the Coxhoe boys picking the ball out of their net after 1 minute of this second game of the day........0-1 Seaham

More attacking from Seaham sees Nathan M saving well to keep the score 0-1.........however, relentless Seaham pressure results in another goal....0-2 Seaham.....and before we can draw breath,.....0-3 Seaham

Roll-on half time!!!!

Half Time 0-3 Seaham

Coxhoe regroup and put Seaham under some pressure with some improved teamwork.... two corners in quick succession.....but Seaham defend and clear their lines

More pressure from Seaham but Coxhoe defend their goal and keep a clean sheet for the rest of the game....a small moral victory perhaps

Full Time 0-3 Seaham

Sometimes you’ve got to hold your hands up boys and say you were beaten by the better side. However, you need to work on getting that confidence back for the remaining games to finish as high as possible in the league.....work hard in training, but most importantly, work hard for each other

Coxhoe United 7 v East Durham 2

U14 girls

Welcome back to Chelsea Thompson who was playing her first game for several months after breaking her shoulder. The girls started weakly allowing East Durham to pressure our defence , however , Chelsea and Paige Wilson soon got into their stride and made sure East Durham didn’t get through for a while. We started to attack down the right wing with Faye Mullen and Jess Hennessary working well to pressure the goal with some lovely crosses into Chloe Jobling , Danika Stephenson and Rachel Harvey. This pressure resulted in our first two goals scored by Chloe and Danika. The team then seemed to relax and let East Durham get back into the game. Our marking and defence crumbled and it was not nice to watch , the girls did silly things and let Durham score. WE were not playing the tight game that we know the team can play. After half time the same thing happened which resulted in another goal against us. However, the girls did not drop their heads. Sophie Whiting went back on in defence and this tightened things up with her setting up a number of attacks which seemed to give the girls a lift , resulting in ten minutes of continual goals. One being a spectacular goal from Faye which looked like a cross, but found the back of the net. Coxhoe kept up the pressure and in the end it was quite a comfortable win, but we seem to having periods in the games where the basics go wrong. I know having a big squad is hard with many changes , but we must learn to be flexible. However , it was still a good win.

Man of the match Jess Hennessary

Goals Chloe Jobling 3, Danika Stephenson 2, Faye Mullen 2

Sunday 13th November 2011

Tyne and Wear AllStarts 3 - Coxhoe United U15’s 2

United played well today and took an early 2 goal lead. Somehow the AllStars managed to get back into the game and took the lead 15 minutes into the 2nd half. Coxhoe continued to threaten and got chance after chance but were unable to convert them. It was a tense last few minutes as United pushed forward to try to claim a point but came away from the game with nothing to show for all their hard work and possession.

Goals:- Jack, Freddie.

Man of the Match:- Joe

Coxhoe United U9s 2  - Houghton Albion FC U9s 0

(Starting Line Up – Nathan Mitchell (Goalkeeper), Tom Gwillym, Josh Cairns, Adam Heppell, Louis Dixon, Ned Hampson, Jack Rowcroft)

1st Half

Coxhoe kicked off in sensational style thanks to Josh & Jack’s striking partnership. The ball soon found itself into Houghton’s goal area where Louis just couldn’t break the defensive wall of the opposition; Adam continued the good play by snatching the ball from the Houghton players and feeding it up the RH of the pitch to Tom. Again Houghton parked the bus in front of the goalmouth to deny Coxhoe the spoils of their excellent work.

Houghton responded by giving the Coxhoe boys a bit of their own medicine but were stopped in their tracks by Ned’s smooth handling of a free ball and a volley up into the Houghton half for the umpteenth time. Suddenly it was at the feet of Louis who unleashed a ballistic missile of a shot from 15ft away and pounded into the back of the sky blues’ net. Outstanding!

Coxhoe United U9s 1 - Houghton Albion FC U9s - 0

No sooner had Houghton Albion took to the centre spot then Coxhoe took the ball from them as easy as taking candy from a baby. Jack walloped the ball but was unlucky as it sailed over the goal – a goal kick by Houghton and then it was Ned’s turn as it just missed the post. The ball returned again to the Coxhoe lads and Josh had the goalmouth in sight to which he launched a ferocious volley at the crossbar (I’m sure that I saw that thing wobble from the impact!).

SUBSTITUTION – ON: James Armstrong, Lucas Duncan.  OFF: Adam Heppell, Louis Dixon

Squeaky bum time as Houghton pressured deep into the Coxhoe half, good defending by Lucas forcing a corner into Houghton’s favour. The corner was taken and found the Houghton players that had surrounded the goalmouth but there was no way they could get past the cat-like Nathan who saved with maximum skill. Another scramble around the goalmouth of Nathan and this time it was defended well by Jack & Lucas who cleared the ball into the opposition’s half.

Half-Time

2nd Half

(2nd Half Line Up – Nathan Mitchell (Goalkeeper), Tom Gwillym, Josh Cairns, Adam Heppell, Louis Dixon, Lucas Duncan, Jack Rowcroft)

Houghton opened up the second half but were immediately penalised for a handball. Josh took the free kick but was pinned back by the sheer number of Houghton players in his way. With the ball plundered from Coxhoe, the opposition had another go at Coxhoe’s goal and once again were thwarted by Nathan and his superglue-like gloves. Game on!

Nathan spied his team mates and his goal kick soared down the RH side of the pitch, over the halfway line and into Lucas’ path. Lucas held on to the ball, twisting between their players and defending by Houghton gave Coxhoe a throw in

No sooner had the throw in been taken then Jack took control of the ball and sweetly knocked it into Houghton’s net!

Coxhoe United U9s 2 - Houghton Albion FC U9s - 0

SUBSTITUTION – ON: James Armstrong  OFF: Adam Heppell

Another kick off by Houghton and another attack into Coxhoe’s half – this time it was Tom who controlled the situation and drove the ball back into the Houghton box. Josh flicked the ball at the keeper who punched it back out into play, only to have James head the ball back into their goalkeeper and saved it.

Good defending by Lucas, Josh and Tom and good goalkeeping by Nathan in the dying minutes saw to it that Houghton never troubled Coxhoe again.

What a mint game! A game of two halves and one side!

November 11th 2011

Coxhoe United U9s 0  - Real AthleticU9s 3

(Starting Line Up – Nathan Mitchell (Goalkeeper), Tom Gwillym, Josh Cairns, James Armstrong, Louis Dixon, Ned Hampson, Lucas Duncan)

1st Half

The 2nd game of the day was kicked of by Real Athletic in their black & red striped shirts and it began the way that the whole match would be – TOUGH with a capital T! The red and blacks pushed heavily into Coxhoe’s half but didn’t bank on Tom’s defensive powers who forced a corner. The corner was won by Josh who immediately fouled by Real Athletic’s No.10, however, with the free kick taken, Josh & James took the ball into Real Athletic’s half to crank up the danger level.

Foul! Poor Ned was felled by another black & red jersey and Josh arrived to take another free kick. He stabbed the ball at the goal but it landed at the feet of their keeper.

SUBSTITUTION – ON: Adam Heppell, Jack Rowcroft  OFF: James Armstrong, Lucas Duncan

Once again Real Athletic surged into the Coxhoe half with Louis keeping their boys from getting closer. Time after time this was their only set piece until their villainous No. 10 managed to find the back of Coxhoe’s net.

Coxhoe United U9s 0  - Real AthleticU9s 1

Being a goal down didn’t dismay Coxhoe; Ned & Josh played some sweet football down the right hand side of the pitch to Tom who kept trying to create a way forward for the rest of his team mates but was outnumbered by the volume of Real Athletic players circling around him. The ball found itself back into Coxhoe’s half and a scramble around the goalmouth saw the ball saved at close quarters by Nathan only for the rebound to be tapped in the net by their No.7

Coxhoe United U9s 0  - Real AthleticU9s 2

Again Josh took to the centre spot and formed a passing trio involving Tom & Jack, unfortunately Real Athletic were not in a charitable mood and hounded the Coxhoe Bravehearts in every step they took before pilfering the ball and creating another goal.

Half-Time

2nd Half

(2nd Half Line Up – Nathan Mitchell (Goalkeeper), Tom Gwillym, Josh Cairns, James Armstrong, Jack Rowcroft, Ned Hampson, Lucas Duncan)

Keith’s halftime team talk meant that the Coxhoe boys returned with their heads held high. Josh & Jack combined well in the midfield, catching Houghton on the backfoot several times. Each time Houghton responded by sending the ball back to Coxhoe’s half but were repelled back easily by Tom, Lucas and Ned.

SUBSTITUTION – ON: Adam Heppell, Louis Dixon  OFF: James Armstrong, Lucas Duncan

After more excellent defending by Ned & Jack, the midfield area seemed to be where most of the action would be played – that was until a throw in by Louis saw Jack having a crack at the goal, only to be beaten by the keeper. Real Athletic continued to search for a fourth goal but were stopped by Adam’s fancy footwork and more stopping power by Tom.

Another chance for Real Athletic was spoiled by Nathan brilliantly saving a shot at close range, however in the final minute Ned’s shot on target was cruelly denied by Real’s keeper

Full Time: Coxhoe United U9s 0 – Real AthleticU9s - 3

Fantastic second half saw Coxhoe being unlucky in finding the net, but the teamwork, bravery and confidence in the team was plain for all to see. Keep up the good work!
