Coxhoe United Under 13’s Girls 11 v Lumley Ladies
This was the day that the girls had been waiting for , the chance to play in their first Cup Final. We knew that it would be a hard game as we had played them the week before in the league and won 1-0. A big thank you from me and Michael for the support on the day , the whole of the touchline was full of Coxhoe United supporters, it was great for the girls. The game started very balanced with both teams battling for the ball and having shots at goal, however Lumley never looked like scoring Beth Vasey had one of her best performances of the season in goal , making sure everyone was in the right position and shouting when it was her ball , it was great to see her so confident. After about ten minutes we had our first break through with a lovely goal from Faye Mullen. This seemed to give Coxhoe an extra lift and the girls just started to play some of the best football they have played all season with some excellent passing moves and supporting play from everyone. I am not going to describe the whole game , but would like to pick out a few performances. Sophie Tierney in midfield had a brilliant game even with an ankle injury and Julia Domany scored two great goals which have been coming all season. The whole team where a credit to the club and their parents and it was a very proud day for me both as manager and parent.

Under 13 Girls 1 v Lumley Ladies 0
This was a rehearsal game for the Cup Final next week as we are playing the same team, so the girls were out to prove a point. We had Plern back from holiday , but not one of our strikers so Paige Wilson was asked to play a new role for her up front with Danika Stephenson. The team started strongly pressuring every ball and not letting Lumley settle. Both teams are good footballing teams who play exciting football. The game started with the play going from end to end , however Lumley never really looked like scoring as Holly, Chelsea and Beth had the defence sorted out with good communication from Beth in goal making sure everyone was were she wanted them. Paige made a nuisance of herself in her new role, hassling any spare ball in our attacking half. Danika and Paige used their pace up front to make Lumleys defence work hard .The whole team palyed some nice football with Plern, Julia and Sophie T making some excellent passing work in midfield. After about 20 mins Sophie W and Faye began to make some really important holes in Lumleys midfield and defence , Sophie with her mature game play and supporting role and Faye with her incredible speed on the right wing. The pair play so maturely together constantly talking to each other and letting each other know where the other one is and where to play the ball. One of these plays resulted in the goal, with Sophie passing it out to Faye , who after a run cut inside the defender and hit it into the net.The second half worked the same with everyone giving their all , which was hard in the heat and with only one sub. Paige continued to press for goal even when she was put back in defence , Sophie covered to allow her to go on a few runs. Lumley never really put our goal under pressue lets hope for the same result next week. If anyone wants to support the girls the info is on website homepage.

11th and 15th April Matches for Under 13’s Girls team
Coxhoe United 4 v East Durham 1
This was a crunch match after being beaten by them on our last meeting. The girls were really up for the game and had loads of support from the side line. The match started strongly for Coxhoe with the girls challenging for every ball. Sophie Whiting was back in her normal position in centre midfield and together with Sophie Thierney the pair controlled the area allowing East Durham little time to play. Coxhoe took an early lead when Faye Mullen went on one of her tremendous runs along the right wing and crossed the ball into Chloe Jobling’s feet who found the back of the net easily. However, East Durham were not going to give up that early and Holly Crozier and Chelsea Thompson had to play strongly for the next 15 mins to stop our lead slipping away. Beth Vasey in goal made a number of good saves and played a valuable part in helping captain Sophie W to organise the team effectively. Just before half time Danika Stephenson made it two with a beautifully struck ball from just inside the box.
Second half and the girls kept up the pressure with a number of lovely runs down both wings. Julia Domany worked the left with new strength and determination , such that East Durham could only stop her by putting in a very late tackle. However, Julia carried on in a lot of pain. Coxhoe with 20 mins to go were now the better side playing some lovely football but also being strong footballers, resulting in our third goal by Chloe who hassled the defence until she found an opening and in the goal went. Our fourth goal came from Danika again who followed up a shot by Sophie W , which was fumbled by the goalie and she was there to strike it in. East Durham got one back in the dying minutes but we deserved the victory. Well done to all the players and thank you for behaving like Coxhoe United players at the end!!!!!

Coxhoe United 10 v Darlington 3
Even though the score suggests that Coxhoe had an easy game they didn’t. The first half was very disappointing and the girls did not look like they wanted to play let alone win the game, even though they knew that there is a slight chance that we could still win the league. Half time came and it was 4-2 to us but it had been a very poor performance by everyone. Second half was better , the girls had realised that they had to work for this result and we needed not just the win but plenty of goals to even have a chance of catching the top of the table. We had no subs on a very hot morning so legs were getting tired so 5 mins into this half we had a change round, Beth came out of goal and Holly went in net. This gave the defence a fresh pair of legs and enabled us to tighten up the defence and allow the midfield to attack a bit more. Julia Domany had her best game for the team playing some lovely one two’s with Danika Stephenson. The girls did the job today but it was not good to watch.

a game which started badly for coxhoe as the blues were 3 up very quickly however coxhoe stemed the flow and fought their way back in the game when cameron johnson finished a flowing move to give coxhoe hope going to the break. the second half was a much closer affair as coxhoe battled to reduce the deficet even further and this they did when luke gwyllim fired home however the joy was short lived as the blues increased their advantage again with a further two goals this didn't discourage coxhoe as they fought hard to get something out of the game and when john pratt got another it lifted the lads spirit again as they piled on the prssure but tim unfortunately ran out.

Under 14’s v Bowburn Athletic FC
A local derby brings out the best in every team, and this game was no exception. Even in the sweltering April heat the match was played at a very high pace from the kick off, with Bowburn almost catching United napping with an immediate attack, but this early threat was quickly smothered by the Coxhoe defensive line-up without a threat to goal. 20 minutes of end to end football passed before United’s hard work and good movement culminated in a great strike from Jamie to open the scoring. Two more shots in quick succession - a curler from Jamie, and a cleanly struck volley from Stephen - forced saves from the Bowburn keeper and on the stroke of half time a surging right wing run from Niall won a dangerous free kick, taken by Cameron H and headed marginally over the crossbar by Andrew.
8 minutes into the second half and a deft flick from Stephen found Curtis advancing up the right wing, who neatly crossed into centre for Jamie to slide the ball past the Bowburn keeper then knock into net and double the United scoreline. More entertaining action followed without success for either team in front of goal until the end of normal time when a Cameron H corner was converted by Andrew to make it 3 for United. Bowburn didn’t give up and turned up the heat in injury time but again the Coxhoe defence stood strong to keep the clean sheet and claim a well earned 3 points.

Coxhoe United U13 Girls 2 - Plains Farm 3
Before l write the match report l would just like to say how proud l was of the girls. We only had 8 players, two were not 100% fit and this team made the top of the table work very hard to take the points from us. The girls gave everything they had to get a result and l was so proud to say that l was their manager.
The game started well for Coxhoe with the team pressuring every ball and making sure that they were first to the ball. Chelsea Thompson and Sophie Whiting worked well in defence to stop Plains Farm having any real chance in the first 10 mins. Faye Mullen and Julia Domany on the wings worked hard all game trying to cross the balls in for Chloe Jobling to shoot. It was from one of these crosses from Faye that saw Chloe score her first goal of the day and Coxhoe take the lead. However, Plains farm soon got one back, but the girls did not give up with Sophie Thierney and Danika Stephenson ( who usually plays striker ) working together to send the balls from midfield up towards the goal. We did have a gap in midfield as Sophie W is usually controlling that area with Sophie T , but she had to hold the defence together so Danika had to learn quickly. In the second half the girls carried on the pressure not backing off any ball or tackle and again scored from a similar move as the first goal with Chloe getting her second . Again , Plains Farm got a quick one back but it didn’t worry Coxhoe who still tried to attack down the wings, however legs were starting to tire not helped that Plains Farm had five subs so had fresh legs the whole game. Up until three minutes to go the girls were looking at a draw, but Plains Farm broke through and were just to quick for our exhausted legs. The girls were disappointed but had played really well and had done everything that l had asked. Thanks go Beth Vasey for staying focussed and making some excellent saves, and to Sophie Whiting and Faye Mullen for keeping spirits up on the pitch.

Washington Wanderers 2 - Under 12’s 5
this game started with coxhoe very much on the front foot and they were rewarded when the excellent cameron storey opened the scoring. coxhoe created more chances but the washington keeper pulled of some fine saves then a quick throw saw luke gwyllim try to lob the defence and a washington defender handled in the area and luke slotted in the penalty to make it 2-0 the game then went in to a lull as washington stemed the flow of coxhoe attacks until mathew agar broke through only to be pulled down in the box and he stepped up to hammer in the resulting penalty coxhoe then went to sleep and allowed wanderers back in the game when a well taken goal reduced the deficit before the break. the second half started great for coxhoe as straight from the kick off mathew agars great run and cross found cameron storey unmarked to slot in his second. then a miss kick at the back allowed washington in to again reduce the deficit the game then went from end to end with both teams creating good chances and it was coxhoe who took the advantage when cameron storey completed his hatrick but this spurred wanderers on again and they were awarded a penalty when a player was taken down in the box however jack elcoat made a great save to keep coxhoe in control of the game and run out winners.

Under 14’s v Wearside FC
When these 2 teams met earlier in the season at the Wearside home ground Coxhoe suffered their heaviest defeat of the season so far, but United showed how determined they were to turn that around when Charlie’s tremendous long distance shot found the corner of the Wearside net to open the scoring. The travelling team responded almost straight away with a soft goal from Coxhoe’s point of view..... an easy ball rolling across the face of goal with no one well placed to clear it, found a Wearside attacker for a simple tap in. A great strike from Sam on 15 minutes forced an equally great save from the Wearside keeper and Lee stood strong in goal for Coxhoe 10 minutes before half time, pressurising the attacker to snatch his shot wide, keeping honours even at the break, but with the majority of chances going to Coxhoe.
Sam had another opportunity just after the re-start but the keeper tipped it around the post, then a vital block from Cameron D prevented Wearside taking the lead, and a great save from Kieren J in goal in the 2nd half for Coxhoe again denied the visitors. With 20 minutes left on the clock Coxhoe were forced to change formation when Michael had to come off from central defence after a nasty twist to his knee. United still continued to make chances with their slick passing and Andrew would have surely scored from Cameron H’s through ball had it not been for an awkward bobble just at the vital moment. Wearside eventually made the breakthrough when a loose ball in the United box wasn’t dealt with, leaving the attacker to pounce and slot into the net. Another brilliant save from Kieren J with 5 minutes left kept Coxhoe within touching distance and they continued to pressure Wearside but were unable to finish. Joe was the next casualty of the match, getting sandwiched and falling heavily resulting in the loss of another key defender for United. An injury time free kick for Wearside on the edge of the penalty box sealed the victory for the visitors with a great shot over the wall, albeit originally saved, the force of the shot carried the ball into the goal. The final score didn’t seem a fair reflection of the match with some great play from United but unable to put the final ball away. Certainly a harder game for Wearside compared to the earlier meeting in October.

Coxhoe United Under 13 Girls 1 v East Durham 4
This was the teams first defeat of the season. It was an extremely physical game with East Durham putting in a number of very strong challenges. Some of the girls looked very tired on the pitch this week and East Durham got an early goal due to this. However, Coxhoe fought back with Faye Mullen crossing in a lovely kick , which Paige Wilson connected with to score her first goal of the season( this means all the team have now scored ) Having got back in the game we thought that Coxhoe would now push ahead and fight for the game, however this did not happen and East Durham were the stronger team and wanted the win more than we did. Things were not helped when captain Sophie Whiting had to go of injured from a very high challenge. ( A big thank you to all the team for asking over the weekend how Sophie is, she really appreciates it—her nose is going down and her eye is a light shade of grey now) The girls worked to stop any more goals going in but just couldn’t lift themselves to het back into the goal.

Wrekenton Nou Camp Orange v Under 14’s
Coxhoe’s trip to the Nou Camp started brightly with a left footed effort from Stephen curling into the top right corner on 3 minutes but a great save from the Wrekenton keeper denied the perfect start. United kept the pressure on and forced a corner 3 minutes later, taken by Jamie with pinpoint accuracy for Cameron D to exercise his height advantage and head home his first of the season. This advantage was wiped away 2 minutes later as Wrekenton clawed one back despite cries of off-side from the United players and supporters. Cameron D and Jamie teamed up again to score the 2nd for Coxhoe, this time Cameron threaded a ball through for Jamie to run onto, rounding the keeper then knocking into the open net.
The opening few minutes of the second half saw another great effort from Stephen with his long distance shot clattering off the crossbar. Urgent defensive work was called for from Coxhoe when Wrekenton broke but the reliable line-up stood strong and cleared to safety. United’s advantage was increased from an unfortunate own goal off a Wrekenton defender after a Coxhoe corner and the game was finished off by Cameron H’s powerful free kick from the edge of the box penetrating the wall straight into the bottom left of the goal. Wrekenton hit the post with 5 minutes left and the game did get a little messy towards the end with both Joe and Freddie being on the receiving end of harsh tackles but the hardworking team managed to secure a valuable 3 points with a good performance throughout.

Coxhoe United Under 13 Girls 7 v Plains Farm 4
What a game!!!!!! The score does not reflect how hard a game this was , l was close to having a heart attack it was so stressful. Plains Farm are top of the league and have improved greatly since we beat them 11-1 in the cup way back in January. We had had to switch the tie due to our pitch still not being fit and the pitch we played on was small even for a 9 a side pitch. This caused the girls problems right from the word go as they didn’t have the time and space that they are used to . plains Farm immediately put pressure on us especially the defence making us look a bit panicky. However, we were the first to score with Chloe Jobling finding the net. Plains Farm immediately got one back , and this is how it carried on for the first half. ( 3-3) At half time the girls said that they were scared, they have not been put under this much pressure for a long time and it was not a nice feeling. However, after putting Sophie Whiting back as an extra defender the girls went out to battle the second half. Again Plains Farm took an early lead again and we were back behind. They attacked our centre as we now had not got Sophie W attacking the balls, Sophie Thierney worked hard but she had an injury from a boot in the face and she wasn’t as brave as normal. Plains kept up the pressure, but the team worked so hard to stay in the game. Then the ball broke through by a lovely pass by Faye Mullen, Chloe crossed it and it found the boot of Holly Crozier ( her first of the season). The girls were back in it!! Ten minutes to go and me and Michael were playing for the draw , but the girls were having none of it they kept kicking long balls up to Chloe who was on her own( everyone else was making things safe ) and eventually one fell right for her, we were in front, and in the last five minutes Chloe found the back of the net twice more. We had won a very difficult game , and we were so proud of the girls as they could so easily have given up. ( I don’t think my blood pressure can handle many more games like this)

Durham County Jets v Under 14’s
United weren’t distracted by the physical presence of some of the Jets team and played there normal flowing passing game, but inevitably whenever the big, strong and fast attacking players from Durham got the ball they steamrollered through the hardworking Coxhoe defence and released goalbound rockets from almost anywhere in the Coxhoe half. This led to a 3-0 advantage at half time, scoring from almost every opportunity they had. That trend continued into the second half but United did manage to pull one back from a corner when the ball fell to Jack on the Jets goal line. Everything seemed to be going against Coxhoe, with Durham’s final goal coming from a penalty after a harsh decision from the ref almost on the full time whistle. The scoreline makes the match look very one sided, but in actual fact on the whole it was a good footballing performance from Coxhoe which was foiled by Durham, particularly their big #6 and #12.

Coxhoe United Under 13 Girls 7 v Birtley Ladies 1
This was the girls first match since 6th January , so we thought they might be a little rusty. Not these girls they came out fighting right from the word go, with Sophie Whiting and Faye Mullen playing some lovely one two’s down the right wing, whipping some great crosses for Chloe Jobling and Danika Stephenson to try to connect with. The practices from training soon paid off and Chloe connected from one of Faye’s crosses to make it 1-0. The midfield of Plern Piercey , Sophie Thierney and Julia Domany kept up the pressure making it difficult for Birtley to settle. Soon the goals started to come in floods with Faye getting the next from one of her crosses, then Chloe got a second. The defence of Holly Crozier, Chelsea Thompson,Paige Wilson and Beth Vasey in goal did not have a lot to do , but when called on they dealt with the problems quickly and maturely. The second half carried on in the same vein , but we let some players try different positions with Chelsea, Holly and Paige going up and Sophie W and Plern playing defence. All girls played really well even after the rest , but Julia especially had her best game since joining us in September. Well done!!!!

Washington Juniors v Under 14’s
Today’s match truly did measure up to the old cliché of being a game of 2 halves, at the expense of Coxhoes points tally. The first half saw United teaching Washington a lesson in fast precision passing throughout the whole team, and acrobatics (with Stephen’s Rooney-like overhead kick going marginally over the crossbar) and peaking with a scorching long distance strike from Freddie, finding the only part of Washington goal that their keeper couldn’t have reached. Runs from Curtis up the right wing were causing problems for the Juniors but it was Andrew that doubled the score line in the last few minutes of the first half with a great run & finish from Michael’s free kick.
There were high points in the second half, not least of which was a fantastic run from Joe all the way up the right wing forcing a corner, but it seemed to be Washington that had more desire at this stage of the game and they clawed back 2 goals in disappointing fashion from a Coxhoe point of view. Realising United were on the racks, the Juniors started ploughing men forward looking for the win, but the Coxhoe’s defensive line-up stood strong and the team tried for breakaways when possible while the Juniors were in an attacking frame of mind. A tense last few minutes saw Kieren pull off a fantastic close range reaction save - unfortunately the shot was an overenthusiastic back-pass from his own team mate! A share of the points was probably a fair result with the whole match taken into consideration.

U14’s v Gateshead Sapipa Orange
A great start from Coxhoe saw them go 1 up within 1 minute through Freddies lob after Jamies initial shot was well saved by the Gateshead keeper. The equaliser came on the 20 minute mark when a low shot found its way through a crowded penalty box and underneath Lee as he dived at full stretch to block it. Gateshead went on to take the lead 7 minutes later when they brought the ball from right wing, rounding the defence in the muddy conditions and slotting home from close range.
Good play continued from both sides in this well balance exciting mach and the 2nd came for Coxhoe 8 minutes into the second half as Andrew ran onto Cameron H’s free kick. A bad refereeing decision allowed play to continue 10 minutes later and there was little goalkeeper Kieren could do to prevent the goal against the 3 offside Gateshead players advancing towards him. The Oragnes advantage was almost cancelled out minutes later when a scramble on their goal line left everyone wondering if and how the ball hadn’t actually crossed the line. We didn’t need to wait much longer for the equaliser as Stephen threaded through a perfectly weighted ball for Jamie, leaving him with only the keeper to beat, which he did calmly and neatly. One point each would have been a fair result, but Gatehead mustn’t have read the script, as they broke through the Coxhoe defence and scored what turned out to be the winner with 4 minutes left on the clock.

SAFC Foundation Panthers v U14’s
With the kick off being moved forward and 2 players out thru illness it could have been a tough day for Coxhoe but with Richard choosing football over a christening (who wouldn't) and a guest appearance from Henry (by the way Sue the home team were in red !!!) we managed to turn out a full compliment with a number of players also returning from injury. SAFC Puma's are a big set of lads and in the opening minutes United sat off them a little which gave them the chance to pass the ball around and a flowing moved down their right wing allowed the ball into the box for them to open the scoring, but this seemed to wake our lads up a bit.
We started to get stuck in and despite a few strange decision we got back into the game when a ball over the top was latched onto by Jamie who coolly lobbed the advancing keeper to make it 1-1, an end to end game followed for the rest of the first half with no team getting on top but some nice football being played.
A few changes at half time again picked the Coxhoe lad's up and the pace of Henry on the left caused instant problems for SAFC with a quick run down the wing and cross into the box that we couldn't convert however a few minutes later the same scenario led to the ball breaking free in the penalty box for Jamie to strike into the roof of the net with his left foot (yes, I did say his left foot !!!). But with a goal advantage Coxhoe seemed to sit back and let the Puma's back into the game and a combination of tired legs and constant pressure saw Coxhoe hanging on in the last 10 minutes.
A rock solid performance from the defence and a great save from Lee at the back post kept us in the game but with 3 minutes left the ref awarded an indirect free kick on the edge of the box for time wasting, however this was dealt with as the wall stood firm and a quick break away nearly led to a third. A great cross from Henry just alluded Jamie with a header (for his perfect hatrick), then Andrew sliding in and finally Richard at the back post but eventually after 5 minutes of injury time the ref called time on a very entertaining game.

The lack of recent match time soon paid its price, when Coxhoe went 1 nil down within 2 minutes after a perfectly weighted cross from right wing found a Horden head to guide it into the back of the net. Another header from the Colliery boys doubled the advantage on 4 minutes although this time Keiren Jowett in goal for Coxhoe did get a hand to it but the ball still found its way into the net after deflecting in off the underside of the crossbar. Things went from bad to worse when a looping ball went over everyone’s head, including Keirens, and into the goal on 15 minutes. Horden kept the pressure on and some swift passing and silky skills forced a fantastic point blank save from Keiren a minute later, but the 4th goal came on 25 minutes from yet another headed Horden ball.
Into the second half and Coxhoe at last started passing the ball with greater accuracy and the breakthrough came 6 minutes after the re-start when Cameron Holdsworth put a teasing cross along the face of goal where the advancing Stephen Wadge was waiting to slot home. The momentum was with United at this stage of the game and the 2nd came after Charlie Pearson laid on Sam Murphy with 20 minutes left. Ten minutes later Charlie had an opportunity of his own when an Andrew Simpson cross found him on the attack, but the Horden keeper palmed it to safety. Had that goal gone in, the match could have had a very different ending, but as it was, the emphasis shifted back to Horden and despite the valiant efforts of the Coxhoe defence 3 quick goals ensured no return for Coxhoe.

Hebburn Town vs Under 15 Girls
This was the first match the under 15 girls have played in over two months and from the way they trudged onto the pitch, we were not expecting much, however they certainly proved us wrong. From the outset the girls took control of the game constantly matching Hebburn at every turn. Midway through the first half Shannon sent a lovely ball through to Abigail who took it the length of Hebburn's half before chipping it over the Keeper for the first.
In the second half it was Coxhoe's midfield and defence that helped to keep them in the lead until Hebburn broke through 25 minutes into the second half to equalise. By this time the girls were really tired, however their heads were up and they bravely battled on harrying Hebburn into making mistakes, this finally paid off with Emily scoring the winning goal in the last 10 minutes of play. A solid team effort by all got the year off to a positive start. Well done girls!

U13 Girls vs Plains Farm - Cup semi final)
This was our first game for weeks due to the weather and was the cup semi final that was cancelled before Christmas. I was worried that the girls would struggle with fitness and focus as Plains Farm are a strong team. However , they started strongly and battled for every ball dominating the first 10 minutes , with the midfield of Sophie Whiting, Julia Domany, Plern Piercey and Faye Mullen setting up a number of attacks at goal for Chloe Jobling and Danika Stephenson. One of these attacks resulted in the first goal by Chloe. Unfortunately the team then had a bad 15 minutes were they looked more like a bunch of beginners rather than the current champions. They let Plains Farm settle into a rhythm who ran rings around us resulting in them getting a goal back. The defence of Holly Crozier, Chelsea Thompson and Paige Wilson worked hard supported by the midfield to stop the opposition get in front. In the last part of the half the girls woke up again and started to pressure every ball and play simple football and began to take charge again. Sophie Thierney and Chloe got two more goals before the break. In the second half people had to play out of position due to tired legs and illness, but every player put 100% in and didn’t let anyone down and this resulted in an avalanche of goals . ( I have no idea what order they came so l will just list the scorers ) the girls played with such determination that Plains Farm asked to stop the game early, however l must just say that Plains Farm are a good team and played in a very good spirit and never stopped playing, even making Beth Vasey make some excellent saves in the last few minutes. Well done to all next stop CUP FINAL!!!!!!!

Bowburn Athletic v Under 14’s
A sleet and rain-swept morning led to muddy conditions for today’s away game against Bowburn. An early chance for Jamie Appleby was foiled by those conditions, as his low shot ‘hung up’ in the mud of the goal mouth for a simple collection by the Bowburn keeper. Another chance came for Jamie shortly after but the keeper stood large and blocked the shot. Kieren Latcham’s floated attempt from a short corner on 15 minutes almost opened the scoring but yet again the Bowburn keeper prevented it by palming it onto the post and then on to safety. The clearance created a chance for Athletic but the strong central defensive combination of Michael Wake and Joe Nixon kept the game even, with Joe muscling the attacker off the ball on the edge of the penalty box. A free kick for Coxhoe just outside the Bowburn box a few minutes later was almost converted by the head of the stretching Andrew Simpson, but the score remained at 0-0 at the half time whistle.
The breakthrough came for Coxhoe 6 minutes into the second half when Andrew looped the ball over the keeper, and the advantage was doubled 10 minutes later by Jamie when a dangerous ball across the face of goal wasn’t dealt with by the Bowburn defence leaving Jamie unmarked with an easy tap in. The conditions got worse but both teams battled on and Athletic grabbed a goal back with 5 minutes of normal time left on the watch - the initial shot was cleared off the line by Curtis Bihari but the follow up ball found its way through a crowded goal-line into the back of the net. With the depth of squad Coxhoe have this season, they were able to bring several fresh players onto the field to replace tired legs throughout the team in these energy sapping conditions. The last couple of minutes saw 2 more good chances for Coxhoe - 1 blocked by the Bowburn keeper and the other denied by the post, but a good team performance collected all 3 points and hopefully marks a change in form compared to the lacklustre attitudes seen in the previous 2 matches.
Final Score:- Bowburn 1, Coxhoe United 2

Under 13 Girls v Lumley Ladies
This was going to be our hardest match of the season playing the top of the league. The girls were well up for the match starting positively, challenging for every ball. However , after an early goal by Faye Mullen who took the ball on a run and crossed it into the net, the team went to sleep and let Lumley back in the game to equal the score. This is how the next 15 mins went , with Coxhoe scoring again from Chloe Jobling and then Coxhoe relaxing to let Lumley score again. However, at two all the girls got their heads up and started to battle for every ball, with captain Sophie Whiting leading by example , working hard to gain control again. This seemed to lift the girls with Faye scoring again from almost the same position as her first. Plern Piercey , Julia Domany and Paige Wilson were now working with Sophie to feed the balls up to Chloe and Danika Stephenson who were putting Lumley’s defence under more and more pressure. In the last ten minutes Soy , Chloe, Plern and Danika. Sophie kept the centre strong with the help of Julia who had her best game since joining the team . Beth Vasey in goal became the keeper we knew she was today with some tremendous saves to keep us ahead . She also found her voice organising the defence to keep the area clear. Chelsea Thompson and Holly Crozier in defence did their jobs great today fighting for every ball and making things safe. In the last ten minutes Chloe and Danika made thing safe with two more goals. This was such an exciting and scary game for the spectators but everyone supporting Coxhoe United left proud of all the girls. A fanastic game!!!!

Under 13 Girls v Leam Rangers
This was the first Cup match of the season so the girls were determined to do well even on a very wet Coxhoe pitch. However, things did not go Coxhoe’s way with an early goal from Leam after some unusually sloppy defending from the girls. Fortunately they showed how mature they are as a team now and picked themselves up and for the next ten minutes worked really hard to get back into the game. The break through came from an attack started from an excellent ball from Sophie Whiting out to Faye Mullen on right wing , who ran past two players to cross the ball for Chloe Jobling to find the back of the net. With Coxhoe back in the game the girls started to relax and play to their strengths with some lovely passing between Plern Piercey and Sophie W , which resulted in the second goal again by Chloe who was now together with Sophie Thierney and Danika Stephenson causing Leam a lot of trouble. Just before half time we put another two in , one from Sophie Whiting who intercepted a ball and ran at the defence and let rip on the edge of the box, and the fourth by Faye who again picked the ball on the right ran it down the wing, cut inside and found the top corner. The second half followed the end of the first with Coxhoe dominating, however as the pitch started to produce tired legs Leam did break through the defence several times , but Beth Vasey kept us safe with a number of excellent saves and controlled decisions. Chloe scored twice more with her blistering speed and her ability to never give up , so did Faye. The defence of Paige Wilson , Holly Crozier and Chelsea Thompson even went on some runs up front as Sophie W is always supporting behind them. In the last five minutes Coxhoe never relaxed with Danika scoring twice in the final few minutes , she never let the ball go making sure it got into the net. This was a tiring game for the girls and as easy a game as the score may seem, but they never stopped working and talking to each other. Well done!!!!

Under 8’s Game 1 vs Farringdon Detached
Coxhoe knew this was going to be a difficult game against a team presently second in the league.
Farringdon started attacking from the outset with Michael defending well making 2 good clearances. Farringdon breached the defense on the 3rd attampt and Ben saved at the feet of their centre forward. Coxhoe then attacked with some good play by Tom in midfield turning his man and threading a ball to Sam, Sam was tackled but the clearance was sliced and fell to Jack. Jack had one thing on his mind and shot, unluckily past the left post. Sam continued to tackle well and then threaded a great ball through to Jack, this time his shot was accurate and forced a fantastic save from the Farringdon keeper down low to his right hand side. The resulting corner by Josh hit the side netting. Coxhoe had the wind in their sails and were putting the opposition under some serious pressure. Ned showed his magic by jigging past 2 players on the left then passing to Jack who’s shot was again saved by the keeper. Farringdon then put together a sublime piece of play. The winger beat Josh on the left and crossed the ball over to the right. This ball was volleyed first time and was goalbound. Luckily Ben saw the danger and rushed out making a reaction save that Joe Hart would be proud of. Coxhoe then forced the play. Josh’s shot from a freekick deflected past the right post, then a shot by Michael deflected past the left post. United then forced a series of 4 corners in quick succession but the ball would just not go in. Farringdon must have been relieved to hear the half time whistle blow.
Farringdon again started the half well, Josh made an excellent interception on the left as last man when a winger tried to thread the ball through to 3 free men in the penalty area. A midfielder then blasted a shot which stung the hands of Ben but which was well handled. They continued to attack, the partnership of Michael and Josh standing firm, both players making good tackles. Farringdon then broke through but Ben saved at the feet of 2 Farringdon players. Tom did well in midfield disrupting at least 2 Farringdon attacks and continued to help the Coxhoe defense which was under increasing pressure. Then came the defining controversial point of the match. As Farringdom attacked down the left one of their players was hurt in a challenge and a freekick conceded. Ben in goal was being constantly fouled and held by an opposition player who had no intention of tring to play for the ball. The referree allowed the kick to be taken and unfortunately the keeper was powerless to save it as he was being rugby tackled by the opposition player. Incredibly the referee let the goal stand. In the final few minutes Coxhoe continued to play well but the final whistle blew, a one nil victory to Farringdon. A bitter pill to swallow but Coxhoe should be very proud on themselves due to the fantastic performance from the entire team.
Final Result – Coxhoe United 0 Farringdon Detached 1

Leam Rangers Green Vs Under 8’s Game 2
Coxhoe started well and played the entire game in the oppositions half. Michael was on fire playing in midfield and was involved in nearly all Coxhoe’s attacks. He made a run down the right beating 2 players and passed to Sam who’s shot was saved by the keeper. Josh then tried his luck but shot wide of the target. Tom slotted a good pass to Lucas who was tackled just as he was getting his shot off. Ned then won the ball in midfield, passed to Michael who’s shot was handballed. Josh’s freekick was saved by the keeper and the rebound hit wide by Mike. It was all one way traffic. Mike again attacked down the right but his cross was intercepted by the keeper. Lucas then got another chance as he was put through on the right by Sam. Unluckily he scuffed his shot at close range. The rangers then almost got out of their own half but Tom tackled and threaded the ball through to Josh. He looked up and shot, just past the left post. Two chances then fell to Michael who’s first shot was straight at the keeper and the second wide right. The crowd at this point was starting to get uneasy, wondering if it was going to be ‘one of those days’. It looked as if it was, again Michael shooting straight at the keeper and then Sam straight through, loosing his balance and miss kicking at the final moment.
Second half started as the last half had finished. Lewis used his speed down the wing and passed a cross field ball to Josh on the left who’s powerful shot was saved by the keeper at the lefthand post. Owen was controlling the midfield and threading accurate passes with impunity. He passed Michael through who’s shot bounced off the keepers chest and the rebound fell to Jack. The Coxhoe supporters held their heads as he blasted over the bar. Sam burst down the right crossing just over Jacks head, then Josh broke down the left and his shot/low cross rolled across the face of the goal evading everyone. It was if the ball was somehow magnetically guided to the keeper as Josh passed Michael through and his shot was again saved, then another 2 crosses fell straight to the keeper. Then at last the breakthrough. A shot by Josh was fumbled by the keeper and Mike made no mistake with the rebound, he blasted it home to give Coxhoe the lead. The Rangers then seemed to come to life. Owen made a crucial tackle and then made an even more crucial one as the opposition forward looked straight through on goal. A third attack in the final minute found their centre forward through and Ben came screaming out to save at his feet. Unfortunately the ball rebounded off Ben’s knees and fell to an advancing midfielder who somehow blasted it high over everyone’s heads into the top right hand corner. The croud groaned, no-one could believe it. As the final whistle was about to blow Coxhoe put together one final attack. As the ball was crossed from the right a goalmouth scramble ensued. As the ball bounced around and looked to be cleared, in a moment of sublime magnificence, Lewis from a very narrow angle shot the ball through a crowd of players into the very corner of the net. The Coxhoe supporters went wild with delight as Lewis gave Coxhoe their well deserved win.

Hilda Park Badgers V Under 8’s
Coxhoe United fancied themselves from the start, all players being well up for the game. Jack started out well getting good success down the left wing. Only 2 last second challenges preventing close range shots on goal. Coxhoe came close from a corner which culminated in a long range shot by Josh Cairns which took a deflection off Sam into the keepers arms. Sam was like a man possessed, he tackled everything in midfield then made some good penetrating runs. When the Badgers did play themselves through Coxhoe’s midfield, Michael Gaskell dealt with it and what little he didn’t was easily swept up by Josh covering. The first goal for Coxhoe came from a corner from the Badgers. Ben expertly caught the cross then delivered a trademark massive goalie kick which was flicked on by Tom into the path of Jack. Jack controlled well and shot past the advancing keeper who got his hand to the ball. Ned followed up with 2 good runs down the right then showed his apetite for the game by blocking 2 shots in defence. Sam continued the wizardry by making a great run down the right but was tackled at the third attempt. Tom had a shot at goal blocked and again defended his area well when needed. The Badgers tried to push back, Micael made a crucial clearance, Ben saved a long range effort confortably and then watched another long range effort sail past his left post. Jack was unlucky when another long goalkick by Ben fell to him, he then beat his defender and hit the far post. Josh finished the half well for Coxhoe by collecting the ball in his own half, skinned a midfielder, making a strong run down the left and shooting a stinging shot past the left post.
Second half saw a closer contest, Hilda Park bringing on all their biggest players. Josh took a long shot comfortably saved by the keeper. Then a foul on Owen led to a freekick. Up stepped Josh who blasted the ball from the half wayline. It was on target and it somehow squirmed under the keeper giving Coxhoe a two goal cushion. Hilda Park trtied to respond but Micheael, like a terrier disrupted their every move. Infact a tackle and clearance by Michael nearly chopped his father in two on the spectators line. Owen kept busy and Lewis as always made some sprinting runs down the wing. Midway through the second half Tom fell back into defense and did well. Ben saved a long shot comfortably, then seconds later the clearance led to Coxhoe having a chance saved on the line from a goalmouth scramble. Hilda Park then produced 2 good efforts on goal. A short corner on the right caught the Coxhoe defence flat footed for once. A curling shot high into the high left hand corner was accrobatically parried by Ben then collected for ‘seconds’, at the second attempt. Then, 30 seconds later the Badgers stocky forward was played through on the left. Ben advanced making a point blank save, being stamped on and injured in the process. He then managed to grab onto the rebound shot making a crucial double save. The full time whistle blew giving Coxhoe a well deserved second win on the trot.
Final Result – Hilda Park Badgers 0 - Coxhoe United 2

Under 13 Girls v Leam Rangers
This was a game where we thought the girls would not be able to play their usual passing game because of the water lying on the Coxhoe pitch. How wrong we were they played very confidently passing and supporting each other excellently. Leam did a good job of keeping Coxhoe at bay for the first 10 minutes , but soon they could not hold the attack any more with Chloe Jobling breaking through to score the first goal of the morning. This was closely followed by another from Chloe. Our midfield again dominated the game with both Sophie’s , Faye , Plern and Julia playing some excellent balls up to the strikers , and Plern and Faye making some storming runs down the wings. Just before the half time Sophie Whiting got hold of the ball and ran it from the half way line and hit it into the back of the net to make it three. The next half carried on in the same vein with Coxhoe constantly attacking Leam’s goal. Leam’s goalkeeper had an excellent game to stop Coxhoe scoring even more. Before the full time whistle Chloe got another two goals , Faye got two from the right wing whipping them across and into the back of the net. In the last few minutes Sophie Thierney also got a goal after a very hard working game setting others up. The defence of Holly Crozier (goal) , Paige Wilson and Chelsea Thompson had a quite quiet morning, but stayed focussed and did their jobs when they had to.

Under 13 Girls v Middlesborough
The girls were half asleep as this match kicked off and within the first minute we were one down with the ball slipping between Beth Vasey’s hands. This certainly made the girls wake up and after another three minutes we were winning 3-1 with goals by Chloe Jobling and Faye Mullen. We continued to pressure the ball and started to move the ball around a bit more creating more goal opportunities for Chloe and Faye . For most of the first half Coxhoe dominated with Sophie Whiting , Plern Piercey, Julia Domany and Paige Wilson creating some good passing movements to allow Chloe, Faye and Danika Stephenson to pressure Middlesborough goal even more. After half time the job became harder as Middlesborough packed the penalty area to stop any more goals so the girls started to get frustrated that they were not being allowed to play their normal game. This resulted in the team playing some of the worst football that me and Michael have seen from them in a long time. They gave Middlesborough time to play the ball without putting in challenges which meant that they broke though into our defence. However , Chelsea Thompson and Holly Crozier dealt with the problems and the odd time they got a shot at goal Beth made sure we were safe. In the last fifteen minutes we got control again with Faye and Sophie putting a load of work to create more chances which were taken by Plern Piercey , Chloe again and two tremendous long range goals by Sophie and Chelsea. This was not a nice game to watch but the girls did the job and won the game.
Final Score:- Coxhoe United 10, Middlesborough 1

Under 8’s v Deerness Valley
Both Coxhoe and Deerness started well on this crisp October morning. Coxhoe got their noses ahead after Ned with some good footwork down the right won a corner. The resulting corner kick by Josh rebounded off a defender under pressure by Tom giving Coxhoe the lead. Deerness tried to equalize, Ben slid out and collected a through ball at the feet of an opposition forward, then 30 seconds later saved a tricky medium range effort at the left post. Deerness’s tall lanky forward was making some good runs but professional covering by Michael and Josh always ensured that he was tackled before he could get a shot off. Sam relieved some of the pressure by receiving the ball out on the left, he somehow wriggled through 3 opposition players and crossed accurately to Josh who for once missed the target wide of the right post. It was a crucial part of the game with good play from both teams. Deerness burst through and shot for the bottom right which was turned round the post by Ben. The following corner was acrobatically caught in mid-air and the massive goalie kick gave Owen something to chase. The ball bounced high over the last defender and Owen challenged shoulder to shoulder against the bigger lad and the oncoming keeper. Owen slid in, the ball being cleared by the panicking keeper against his own defender. Owen reacted quickly, sidestepping to the right of the lunging defender and smashing the ball past the right side of the keeper to give Coxhoe a crucial 2 goal cushion. Tom made a good run down the right trying for a third but the half time whistle blew.
Deerness attacked at the start of the second half. A stocky substitute broke through the left and crossed along the ground to give the tall forward a tap-in at close range. Lucky for Coxhoe he missed his footing at the crucial moment. Lewis attacked well down the left and his good play soon payed dividends as he passed Jack through. Jack’s initial shot was blocked by a defender who threw himself at the ball, however Jack cooly controlled the ball, rounded another lunging defender and calmly shot the ball past the keeper into the lower left hand corner to give Coxhoe a 3 nil lead. At this point the game was almost certainly won but credit to Deerness that there was still no let up in the tempo. Ned was competing well in midfield and made at least one eye watering header. Tom was feeding Lewis who was terrorizing the Deerness left wing at every oppurtunity. Deerness had one oppurtunity with their forward finding himself through on goal, Ben bravely saved at his feet as he shot. The final few minutes of the game saw Sam hacked down infront of goal. Jack stepped up and struck the freekick. It was goalbound but blocked on the line. Just before the final whistle Deerness attacked a final time, the stocky substitute showed some great skill by beating the Coxhoe defence running from the left across the goal to the right. He shaped himself and blasted the ball back towards the right top hand corner, Ben diving high to the right made an amazing save. He then quickly sprung up regaining his feet and made the double save at the feet of another attacking forward to keep a clean sheet as the final whistle blew.
Final Result – Coxhoe United 3, Deerness Valley 0
Goals – Jack 1, Owen 1, Own goal (forced by Josh) 1

Under 14’s v Washington Juniors
Although Coxhoe started brightly enough, it was Washington who opened the scoring after their attacker pounced on a loose ball in defence on 13 minutes. Their lead didn’t last long, however, as Henry Davies rounded the keeper to equalise from the restart. Stephen Wadge extended the lead on 20 minutes after his powerful shot into the bottom left was blocked by the keeper but not firmly enough to prevent it continuing into the back of the net. A clearance off the United line by Jamie Appleby kept the advantage with Coxhoe on 24 minutes and Henry was on hand 4 minutes later to float the ball into goal over the keepers head after some great passing throughout the team to allow Henry that opportunity.
The best goal of the day came 6 minutes into the second half when Sam Murphy twisted and turned through the Washington defence then knocked home into the bottom corner. Henry claimed another hat-trick with a run down the left, cutting into the middle, then right footing it past the keeper. Keiren Jowett needed to keep his wits about him in goal for Coxhoe in the second half, with an acrobatic save from a Juniors free kick, tipping onto the crossbar and rebounding to safety with 15 minutes left to play. Coxhoe continued to pile on the pressure with another from Henry before a final consolation goal for Washington created from a free kick deep into their own half went over the heads of the whole Coxhoe team and collected by the advancing Juniors attack.

Under 9’s Game 1 v Washington AFC
Coxhoe started the game well with good pressure from Brandon Simpson and Jack Richards. Bradley Bambling held strong in the middle with Dyllon Eadsforth and Levan Ward defending well. Ella Beecham started in goal. Brandon had opportunity to break the deadlock midway through the first half when a through ball from Bradley Bambling sent him through one on one with the keeper only from him to shoot narrowly wide. For all their first half endeavours they could not break the deadlock. Jack Richards was injured just before half time with Callum McDonald coming on as the replacement. Josh Tinkler started his first game as a half time replacement for James Raw. Coxhoe soon made their possession count when again Bradley,Callum and Brandon linked well passing the ball from the left to the right and allowing Brandon to slot home. Coxhoe were soon two up with Josh sending Brandon down the right and crossing the ball for Bradley Bambling to double the lead. Coxhoe went a little gung hoe for the last five minutes and only some good defending by Levan Ward and Ella Beecham saving well on two occasions prevented a smash and grab by Washington. Just before half time however a counter attack by Washington had Coxhoe on the ropes and a drilled in cross form the right was deflected home by the back tracking Callum McDonald.

Coxhoe faced a Washington side for the second time in the day. The game started with Washington taking the game to Coxhoe and the first 5 minutes was backs to the wall with Ella, Callum, Levan and Dylan all making crucial tackles. Coxhoe however broke down the left with Callum making a good run and crossed into the box where Bradley Bambling fired a low ball into the corner. Two minutes later saw Bradley double his account with a good move down the right and Josh Tinkler passing to Ella who set Bradley up to fire in his second. Washington then grabbed a goal back before Bradley secured his first hatrick of the season with another well worked goal. The second half saw Bradon replace Bradley and Callum McDonald and Ella Beecham running the show in midfield. The next goal came for Callum who was brought down just outside the box and when the resulting free kick was handled in the area Callum steped up to fire the penalty high into the right hand corner. Ella Beecham then opened her account for the season with a goal 5 minutes from time. Ella also won a penalty when her header from a corner was handled on the line. She took the resulting penalty only to be denighd by a superb save form the Washington keeper.

Not much need to say about this game , the girls came out to stamp their mark on the game , with Sophie Whiting scoring in the first two minutes , closely followed by Chloe Jobling and Plern Piercey . Coxhoe were 3 up in the first five minutes. This continued for the next twenty minutes with Coxhoe dominating the play. After a mix around of positions in cluding the goalkeeper , the girls kept up the pressure resulting in more goals including a penalty scored by goalie Beth Vasey. An impressive display by everyone.

Bowburn Youth V Under 8’s Match 1
Bowburn started well with constant pressure on the Coxhoe goal. Some good wing play and a pass into the box resulted in a goalmouth scramble which lead to the first goal. Unfortunately the loose ball found a Bowburn forward who passed the ball into the net for a one goal lead to Bowburn. Bowburn continued to play well and Coxhoe struggled to cope, 2 corners were cleared by Ned following goalmouth scrambles and a third was saved by Ben at the near post. A Bowburn header from a fourth corner passed just wide of the far post. Tom, Sam and Michael desperately tackled well throughout the half to keep Coxhoe in the game, and a speculative shot by Josh flew wide of the Bowburn left post. The half-time whistle blew with Coxhoe very fortunate to be only one goal down.
Some encouragement from the coach saw Coxhoe start the second half in a much brighter fashion. A sublime through pass by Owen found Jack who shot against the keepers leg and the rebound saw Michael shoot just past the right hand post. Bowburn then broke and a well timed tackle by Josh saw Bowburn awarded a corner. The resulting corner rebounded off a Coxhoe player and cruelly fell to 2 free Bowburn players in front of goal. The shot at close range was unsavable and flew past Ben who again had no chance. Coxhoe responded well and in turn were awarded a corner on the left. The corner was quickly taken short, to Josh who powered a shot through a pack of players into the net to give Coxhoe a fighting chance at two goals to one. An exciting period of play followed which saw Coxhoe pushing for the equalizer and Bowburn desperately hanging on to their lead. Some smart play by Owen and Lucas in midfield saw the Bowburn keeper collecting throughball’s at the feet of both Lewis and Jack respectively. A Bowburn Break against the run of play saw Michael block a goalbound shot, the rebound saw Ben save at the feet of an advancing forward to keep Coxhoe in the game. The last 30 seconds saw Coxhoe make a final attack. A strike by Josh on the left struck the bar then the rebound was struck by Lewis on the right from a narrow angle, everyone held their breath as the ball hit the far post as the final whistle blew. The final score a two - one victory for Bowburn.
Final Result – Bowburn Youth 2 - Coxhoe United 1

Under 8’s Match 2 v Ouston Juniors
Definitely a game of two halves, dictated mainly by the wind.
Ouston started well with an early attack forcing Ben make a low diving save to his left hand side. Coxhoe then took control of the half and took the game to the opposition. Owen made a good tackle in midfield and the pass to Lewis forced a good save from the Ouston keeper. Josh played well making 2 excellent tackles and the resulting passes to Tom continued to put the opposition defence under pressure. A good piece of play saw Ned win a fifty-fifty challenge and pass through to Michael who was unlucky to miss the target. Totally against the run of play Ouston attacked through an amazing piece of play by their number 10 winger. He dribbled with speed down the left through 3 Coxhoe players and the resulting cross saw Ben make a double save from the oncoming centre forward. The resulting long kick found Ned who fed Owen who was tackled for a corner. Mike with fantastic vision played it short to Josh who again shot with his trusty left foot straight into the far left side of the goal to give Coxhoe the deserved lead. Ned continued to disrupt Oustons play with his well timed tackling and a pass through to Owen saw him fouled on the corner of the box as he rounded the defender. The goalbound powerful freekick by Josh hit a brave defender’s leg who was lucky not to loose it as he was bowled over from the block. The final action of the half saw a shot from Lewis saved by the keeper to give a half time score of one-nil to Coxhoe.
The second half saw the wind intensity increase giving an advantage to Ouston. An attack down the right by Ouston resulted in a free-kick which was shot just wide of the right-hand post. The pressure continued to mount and only last minute blocks by Michael and Ned prevented shots on goal. The breakthrough for the juniors came from an attack down the right. A one on one chance against Ben saw the Ouston winger shoot wide of the goal to the left, however the missing shot fell into the path of their centre forward who scored in the open goal to give them the equalizer. Coxhoe tried to respond but it was difficult against the wind. A break by Coxhoe saw Sam beat his marker and pass to Lucas who held his ground and shot under pressure just wide. Another accurate pass by Ned found Sam who smartly passed to Jack who saw his shot saved by the opposition keepers feet. The juniors then scored what turned out to be the winner, again from a break down the right. A deep cross heading for the centre forwards head was punched by Ben into the path of another advancing opposition player on the left wing. The shot was blasted over the advancing Ben’s head into the top corner. Josh showed some great agility by trying to cover his keeper’s goal-line. He was unlucky to see his attempt of clearing with his head deflect off the bar into the goal. Persistant pressure by Ouston saw Ben saving 3 more times at close range in one on one situations and Josh clearing off the line from a fourth shot semi-saved by Ben. The final whistle blew seeing Coxhoe beaten two-one by another good team.

Tyneside Juniors vs Under 14’s
Today’s match against Tyneside was anticipated as being the hardest test of the season so far, as the Juniors had not dropped a single point.
The home team must have been caught by surprise, being 2 goals down within 6 minutes from Henry Davies first minute shot and then Jamie Appleby’s follow up from a cross-bar rebound. Cameron Dewey and Michael Wake both made good blocks to prevent an immediate reply, but the Juniors finally broke their duck as their attacker steamrollered through Coxhoe on 8 minutes. They also took an easy chance 3 minutes later to draw the scores level and showed good organisation on 22 minutes to take the lead after their winger found an unmarked team mate in front of goal. Coxhoe were looking 2nd best when Tyneside extended their lead further after their talisman shrugged off the pressure from Michael on 31 minutes to loop it over Kieren Jowetts head, in goal for Coxhoe. Half time couldn’t come soon enough for Coxhoe so they could regroup, but deep into injury time Juniors must have felt they had sealed all the points after another goal went in despite valiant attempts from the United defence to block, taking the half time score to 5-2.
Coxhoe came into the second half with renewed spirit and within 3 minutes of the restart a high ball over the top fell to Henry, who had time to control and shoot to score. Any thought of a United resurgence seemed to drift away when the Juniors regained their 3 goal cushion 6 minutes later but hope was renewed when Jamie converted a spot kick after Cameron Holdsworth had been dragged down inside the penalty area. Pressure was rising when Coxhoe clawed their way back to within 1 goal after Cameron’s free kick targeted Jack Thirlaway on the back post, who knocked it back across the face of goal to Jamie who made no mistake in claiming his hat trick. All the momentum was with United now and 6 minutes later they capitalised on this when Sam Murphy drew Coxhoe level with his shot curling beyond the reach of the outstretched Tyneside keeper and rebounding into goal off the inside of the post. More action was to follow, with the Juniors once again taking the lead with 10 minutes left on the clock, when they were first to pounce on a loose ball in front of goal resulting from a Tyneside corner. This instigated a change in formation for Coxhoe in the final 5 minutes, pushing more players up from defence, which paid off almost immediately with a Tyneside own goal after an initial save on the Juniors goal line. Two more changes came in this match - the first forcing a tremendous reaction save from Kieren for Coxhoe and the second was looking like a sure winner for United from Henry but, under pressure from the Juniors defence, the ball was sent wide of goal.
Final Score:- Tyneside Juniors 7, Coxhoe United 7

Under 9’s Game 1 v Leam Rangers Yellows
The game started well with both teams having a good share of the ball. Coxhoe however tended to push forward looking for the opener and leaving themselves exposed at the back. Leven and Dylan were defending well but Leam Rangers broke through just before half time to take the lead. The second half flowed the same as the first with Coxhoe seeing lost of possession but unable to draw level. Leam Rangers then broke again doubling their lead. Coxhoe pulled one back with Callum,Brandon and Mat linking well for Brandon to slot home only for Leam rangers to again break and extend their lead. The last 8 minutes saw all the play in leam Rangers half with their keeper playing will. A good move down the left with Mat and Brandon linking well saw Brandon flash a shot which the keeper could not reach only for a defender to head it off the line and out for a corner. Two consecutive corners followed but Leam Rangers held firm clearing the ball for a third corner which Brandon Simpson took. The corner was swung in curling left to right and landed in the far corner. Coxhoe had however left it too late and did not have time to salvage a point.

Under 9’s Game 2 v Ouston Juniors
Coxhoe went into the game looking to avenge an 8 – 1 drubbing from Ouston two weeks earlier. The team were really fired up and Ella Beecham stood out amongst all the players with some brave tacking and good passing. Coxhoe were strong in their challenges and defended like lions. Their first chance came when Ella won the ball in the middle of the park and pressed forward only to be brought down half way into the Ouston half. Dylan Eadsforth stepped up for the free kick but could not beat the keeper this time. Ouston then broke clear for the keeper’s clearance and with Coxhoe stretched at the back drove a low shot which somehow slipped under Jack Richards to break the deadlock. Coxhoe however did not give up but suffered a blow when Ella had to leave the field with a twisted ankle. Bradley Bambling came on as Ella’s replacement into centre midfield and Coxhoe pressed hard. A good move from Callum McDonald and Matt Robinson down the left allowed Brandon Simpson to move into the box unmarked and when the cross came in he slotted home to draw level. The game ebbed and flowed in the second half with Ouston seeing more of the play but Dylan and Leven keeping them at bay. Ouston only broke clear one more time but Jack Richards came out of his goal to close down the shot which was tidied up and cleared by Dylan.
Result Coxhoe 1 – Ouston 1

Washington AFC V Under 8’s
Both teams competed well in the first half of this match, with few talking points. Tom, Sam, Michael and Josh played well in midfield with few chances going either way. Tom excelled, tackling well and winning almost every ball that he challenged for. Coxhoe managed to break twice through Jack combining with Lewis but they were tackled just before they managed to get shots off. Washington’s main chances came through a cross missed by the keeper that agonizingly rolled past the far post and a shot that Sam blocked well. Ben made a close range double save and the half time whistle blew.
The second half saw a much more aggressive approach by Coxhoe, the game almost totally controlled by the blues with Washington somehow holding on. Lucas and Owen did well against larger opposition and they helped win the midfield battle. Josh had a corner deflected back with the resulting shot from a narrow angle hitting the side netting. Michael tried his luck but his shot was also blocked. Two attacks down the left by Washington were disrupted by Tom and Josh just as they were about to unleash shots at the goal. A third attack by Washington saw a huge clearance by Michael finding Lucas who almost managed a shot on goal, then a run followed by a cross by Michael was deflected just past the post by a opposition defender. Washington were hanging on. Coxhoe started to apply pressure with a series of 4 corners. One fizzed across goal with no-one being able to convert, a second was shot against the post by Lucas, a third hit the side netting and the fourth was cleared. Sam jigged past 2 players on the right winning a 5th corner which Washington cleared and managed to break. Against the run of play Coxhoe were caught short at the back and a pass saw 2 Washington players with a clear run on goal. Ben came out somehow saving point blank from the initial shot but the rebound fell back to one of the attacking players and was converted past the unlucky diving keeper to give Washington the win. Coxhoe unlucky to loose as they were by far the better team and deserved the win.

Under 8’s V Sacriston Victoria
A repeat of the fixture played last week that produced another fantastic match.
Sacriston kicked off the first half with the resulting shot saved easily by Ben. Michael and Owen tackled well in midfield controlling the play, both broke down the left and right flanks respectively, being tackled before they could produce crosses. Midway through the first half saw Sam pass to Josh who shot from midway inside the oppositions half with the shot drifting high past the left post. Another chance saw Owen wriggling through the Sacriston defence with his shot somehow being saved on the line by a combination of the last defender and the keeper. Sacriston then broke and scored with some strong play from their centre forward. He had the strength to hold off both Michael and Josh in shoulder to shoulder challenges angling on goal from the left wing. A good shot with the outside of his boot curling straight into the far corner left the advancing goalie with no chance to save, one nil to Sacriston. Coxhoe immediately attacked with the keeper intercepting a pass from Jack to Lewis and Josh Cairns shot over the bar. Half time.
Again Coxhoe started the second half attacking. Michael tackled and won the ball in midfield and played a sweet pass to Lucas. Lucas was tackled infront of goal and the rebounding ball was struck by Josh past the Sacriston keeper. One –one. Jack and Lewis continued to link well and had 2 attacks broken up by the opposition defence. Jack won a corner on the right which was blocked, the ball was played to Lucas then onto Lewis who also had a goalbound shot blocked. Sacriston then pushed and a last ditch tackle by Tom prevented a run on the keeper. However a minute later Sacriston scored a second, a run down the left with a pass found the centre forward clear in the centre. Ben rushed out to the forwards feet to narrow the angle but he shot quick, hard and low, the ball half saved but squirming underneath Ben into the net. Coxhoe showed good character by continuing to attack, Lewis was unlucky on the left. A break by Sacriston saw Ben save well to his bottom left. His resulting massive goalie kick fell to Jack who’s shot hit a defenders knee. A foul from that corner gifted Coxhoe a freekick on the right hand corner of the box. Everyone held their breath as Josh stepped up and blasted it into the net. Two-two. The game continued to ebb and flow for the exciting final few minutes. Lucas made a good run down the left and a brave tackle by Tom won a 50:50 ball. In the final moments Sacriston broke through the centre and Ben bravely saved at feet to ensure the points were shared. The result, two-two, a fantastic match to watch from 2 evenly matched teams with some excellent young players.

Under 15 Girls vs Washington Juniors
This morning was a Jekyll & Hyde performance in every sense of the phrase.
We had an excellent first half with Coxhoe taking command of the game and scoring two girls in the process. This was contrasted with a bad tempered second half where our teams good work was undermined by becoming distracted by the opposing teams tactics which resulted in Washington scoring three goals.

Under 13 Girls v Consett Predators
What a difference a week makes , the team looked confident in their new 9 a side set up. The whistle blew Chloe Jobling passed the ball back to Sophie Whiting who dribbled it to the edge of the penalty area and let rip a shot into the back of the net, 40 seconds gone and Coxhoe were one up. This set the structure for the whole game the whole team working strongly and maturely making use of the extra space and using the practices done at training to make the through ball effective , with Chloe missing the net several times from this play. ( just shows that working hard at training can pay off in the game at the weekend). In the first half we made use of our pace on the wings with Julia Domany and Plern Piercey making some very good runs along the wings to cross into the box where many players found the back of the net. In the second half being 10 up we allowed some players a run in different positions . Beth Vasey came out of goal and had a run out in midfield and made several attempts at goal. Sophie Whiting and Faye Mullen moved back into defence to let Holly Crozier and Chelsea Thompson a run in midfield also resulting in Chelsea scoring her first of the season. Special mention goes to Julia who scored her first goal for the team. This performance was a pleasure to watch for me , Michael and all the supporters. Well done to everyone.

Under 9’s Game 1 v Farringdon Detached
Coxhoe were up against the early league leaders and having played them only two weeks before they new it would be a hard fought game. Coxhoe started brightly but Farringdon soon got into their stride and James Raw made a number of good saved to keep it level at half time. The second half saw Mat Robinson and Bradley Bambling replace Brandon Simpson and Jack Richards and soon after the KO Mat Robinson opened the scoring with a low drive from inside the box. This fired Farringdon and after making a change to their line up the game changed in their favour. The replacement striker won the ball just inside their own half and pressed forward to drill a powerful low drive from outside the box that gave James Raw no chance. They then doubled their lead when a goal mouth scramble ended with the ball coming back off the bar to hit Dylan Eadsforth in the chest and bounce over the line. A corner from the right then saw Farringdon extend their lead. Coxhoe never gave up and some good pressure saw them secure a free kick. Dylan Eadsforth took it only to hit the bar and be put behind for a corner. Dylan again took the corner and this time he swung it straight into the back corner. Coxhoe kept pressing for the equaliser only to be caught on the counter attack just before full time.

The deadlock was broke in the first half when a good corner from Dylan was forced home by Bradley Bambling. The second half saw Coxhoe again force the play with 8 corners in the second half.It was from one of these corners that Dylan doubled the lead with a replica goal form the first half curling the corner into the top corner. The final goal came from a free kick after Bradley Bambling had been fowled. Dylan again stepped up and placed a sweet kick into the top corner.

Sacriston Victoria V Under 8’s
Coxhoe United under 8’s fourth match of the season on a warm, sunny October morning.
Both teams strarted tentatively with the majority of the play being combined to midfield with good strong defensive play and few shots at target. Lucas and Mike combined and tackled well in midfield with Tom getting stuck in at left back. Chances were limited with Josh’s shot for Coxhoe from the left midfield going well wide. Sacristons best chance followed a strong run through midfield being ended by a challenge from Josh with the ball spilling to a Sacriston forward who blasted over the bar. One of the best passages of play saw Owen beat a man on the left, run down the wing but to be tackled whilst attempting the cross. Michael burst through the midfield on 2 occasions and found Jack who was promptly tackled by a strong competent left back. Again Josh was solid, mopping up any attack that Sacriston tried to put together.
Coxhoe started the better of the two teams after the break, taking the match to Sacriston. Sacriston were under extreme pressure on the left with Ned and Sam combining well with Jack who was tearing holes through the left side of their defence. Jack was unlucky on 2 occasions with his shots being blocked with last ditch challenges. Michael tackled well in the centre of midfield with a couple of runs down the right, one of which lead to a free kick. Up stood Josh to take the free kick from midway into the oppositions half. An extra-ordinary strike saw the goalbound ball deflected onto the right post, the goalkeeper stood rooted to his spot. Sacriston were lucky to be still on even terms. Josh continued to snuff out any attack that Sacriston mounted with Tom doing well with at least 2 gutsy tackles. In the last couple of minutes Coxhoe continued to push with Tom setting up both Michael and Jack, however their efforts were saved by the oppositions keeper. With Coxhoe still pushing hard for the win, the opposition managed to penetrate the defence right at the end of the match. Fortunately the close range shot was aimed straight at the goalie and was smartly saved by Ben.

Under 8’s v Shotton Colts
Coxhoe United under 8’s fifth match of the season on this warm, sunny October morning. Coxhoe realised this was going to be a difficult game with an excellent opposition team containing 3 academy players and having won six games out of six matches so far.
Coxhoe were up for the match and matched the Colts in every department all over the pitch in the first half. It was a frantic start with Coxhoe winning all the 50:50 balls and getting Shotton onto the back foot. Owen ran down the right to win a corner and Jack burst down the left shooting just wide of the left post. Josh, Sam, Michael and Ned were winning everything in midfield and soon Jack was tackled again in the penalty box just before he could get his shot off. Owen got in on the action, being threaded through by Ned but the keeper reached the ball momentarily before he did making the save. The Colts managed 2 attacks which saw Josh tackling and dealing with the first and Ben saving at the feet of the forward for the second. The end of the first half saw the Colts defence panicking as Jack terrorized them turning them in and out, they managed to tackle him just before the half time whistle.
The shotton team must have drunk rocket fuel in the half time break. Coxhoe continued to play well but the Colts were far superior. Their first chance saw a opposition player beat Lucas and Josh with the resulting shot beating Ben in goal and somehow being cleared off Coxhoe’s line by the head of the Colts centre forward being challenged by Mike. A similar attack resulted in the first goal which saw the colts free on the right hand side with an unsavable wonder strike which beat the advancing Ben into the far left top hand corner. Mike, Josh, Tom and Lucas continued to disrupt the oppositions play and Ben came out to make a save at the centre forwards feet. Sam and Ned were pulled back into midfield to try and deal with the Shotton Colts onslaught. Shotton’s second goal saw them penetrate the right, cross a ball which cruelly deflected off Michael’s foot past Ben as he was tackling the centre forward. By the final 5 minutes Coxhoe were tiring and the Colts were going for the jugular. A skillful run through the centre found their forward one on one with Ben who calmly slotted under the advancing keeper. Ben got his own back by making a fine save a few minutes later as he advanced sliding and saving through a pack of opposition players as they advanced on goal denying them their fourth goal of the match.
A fantastic game to watch, Coxhoe should be very proud of their performance against an excellent Shotton team with top class players who will probably win the league this year.

Under 13 Girls vs Birtley Town
This was our first match playing 9 a side so we were not sure how things would go. The girls started of slowly looking unsure of the bigger match and how to play with so much more room. Sophie Whiting and Faye Mullen soon got into their stride dominating the centre of the field and this seemed to encourage the rest of the team. Birtley used their advantage of having already played two games this season to pressure our defence early on , but Holly Crozier and Chelsea Thompson dealt with the problems and they really didn’t have a proper shot at goal. Beth Vasey looked far more confident today making sure her defence were where she wanted them and never really looked like she would let a goal in. The girls soon settled into their play and Paige Wilson ( in her new midfield position) and Plern Piercey started to make some excellent runs down the wings play some lovely balls into Danika Stephenson and Chloe Jobling up front. It was one of these runs that set Chloe away to score her first goal in her first game for Coxhoe. The second half saw our other new girl Julia Diomany make her debut at left wing. It took her a few minutes to get settled but she soon was getting stuck in and making some intellgient passes up to the forwards. In the last ten minutes Coxhoe had a number of shots at goal which were saved by a fabulous Birtley goalie. Sophie W and Faye M ran their legs off today making sure in the last few minutes that Birtley did not get a goal back and deserved a good rest at the end of the game.

Riverside FC V Under 8’s
Coxhoe United under 8’s third match of the season on this mild, warm September morning. Coxhoe got off to the worst possible start and were one nil down within the first minute when a corner was deflected off a Coxhoe united defender and a Riverside FC forward scored from another deflection off his shin at the back post. However Coxhoe quickly regained their composure and nearly scored when a weak goalkick fell to Sam who shot just wide. The passage of play swung from goalmouth to goalmouth with Ben advancing to save at the feet of a Riverside FC forward to Ned’s shot saved by the opposing keeper. The play continued to swing with Sam and Owen combining well in midfield and Josh and Michael cutting out pinpoint passes at the last to stop the opposition’s run on goal. The last play of the half consisted of an bone crushing header by Ned straight from a goalkick which fell to Jack who deftly controlled and shot just past the keepers far right post. Half-time one nil to Riverside.
Second half saw Ned, Owen and Jack make way forTom, Lucas and Lewis. The start of the second half again saw an early corner awarded to Riverside. A shot from the resulting corner was saved by Ben but was alleged to have touched a Coxhoe defenders arm on the way through a crowd of players and a dubious penalty was awarded. The penalty was superbly taken being blasted into the Right hand corner past the diving keeper. Again Coxhoe showed good spirit and good work from Tom and Lewis resulted in a goalmouth scramble which saw Lucas calmly slot his first goal of the season. Two – one and game on. Coxhoe continued to push, pressing Riverside back. A good run by Michael down the right was unlucky not to result in a goal as was a volley from Sam who just grazed the left post. A single foray forward by Riverside saw a bouncing ball saved by Ben. Michael and Josh pushed forward controlling the midfield and Josh tried his luck from distance just missing the target. Tom was unlucky not to score under pressure infront of goal when his shot was saved after he turned two defenders inside-out. No doubt that the Riverside FC’s coach was relieved when the final whistle blew. Coxhoe’s first defeat of the season but one of the best matches that a neutral could hope to watch.

Under 14’s vs Horden Colliery Boys
Being new to the league, little was known about Horden Colliery Boys so Coxhoe realised they would need to be on their game from the start, especially without Jamie Appleby and Cameron Holdsworth - both out due to niggling injuries. Unlike last season, our team continues to grow and gain strength so there were plenty of other willing players eager to get onto the field and fight for the 3 points.
The Colliery Boys were the first to strike, with a ball through the middle deflecting awkwardly to take it beyond Keiren Jowett in goal for Coxhoe, leaving the striker with a relatively easy knock home. With United still reeling from that, Horden surged forward and capitalised on some confusion in defence, lobbing over Keiren to double the advantage. This kick-started Coxhoe into action, and Sam Murphy’s flick on to Henry Davies allowed him the time to control then shoot to narrow the margin on the 10 minute mark. Another well placed lob from distance saw Horden restore the 2 goal advantage on 16 minutes, but Sam’s cool control and finishing once again narrowed the lead a couple of minutes later. Coxhoe were starting to enjoy more of the game now and equalised through Curtis Bihari on the back post from Henry’s cross from left wing, but the Colliery Boys have some fast attacking players and a surging run up the wing and well taken shot from the resulting cross saw them once again take the lead in an action packed 22 minutes. Sam scored his 2nd by beating the offside trap and sliding it past the keeper then Coxhoe finally took the lead through a power-run from Henry who’s initial shot was saved but he was on hand to clean up the rebounded ball. Kieren pulled off a world class save in the final moments of the first half to keep Coxhoe’s noses in front going into the break, with a reaction outstretched hand denying a powerful close range shot from Horden.
After the restart, it didn’t take long for the Colliery Boys to draw level again when a suspicion of offside was played on, allowing Horden to continue into a 1 on 1 situation against Lee Saiger in goal for United for the 2nd half. Henry claimed his Hat Trick and once again took Coxhoe into the lead with his turn and strike, after some hard work and a great cross from Richard Vincent on the right wing but this was all un-done after an unfortunate rebound in the Coxhoe box meant the score-line was once again levelled at 6 each with 20 minutes left to play. With Henry in the sort of form he has been in so far this season, it was inevitable that it wouldn’t be long before he stepped up again, and sure enough he was on-hand to claim his 4th and put Coxhoe’s noses in front again with 15 minutes left after the keepers initial save ricocheted over his head and into the net. A questionable refereeing decision allowed a Horden striker to play on from what looked like a clear offside position resulting in the teams being level yet again. A determined run on the left wing from Freddie Allen on his debut for United looked like it could swing the advantage back to Coxhoe but Horden defended strongly to deny him the final shot so it looked like both teams would have to share the rewards. Into the dying moments and Coxhoe kept pressing forward to try to earn those valuable points. This pressure paid off when a Coxhoe throw in was flicked into the path of Stephen Wadge who’s left foot struck the ball into the bottom right corner beyond the reach of the outstretched Colliery keeper and secured all the points for United.
Final Score:- Coxhoe United 8 - Horden Colliery Boys 7
Goal Scorers:- Henry Davies x4, Sam Murphy x2, Curtis Bihari, Stephen Wadge
Man of the Match:- Henry Davies
Under 12’s v Bowburn
coxhoe battered the bowburn goal from the start however the bowburn keeper was in fine form making some good saves until ben crampton broke the dead lock this seemed to liven bowburn up and they got back into the game when coxhoe failed to clear a corner which found it's way over the line to send the teams into the break level. the second half started the same as the first with coxhoe creating chances .stephen greaves picked the ball up on the halfway line and beat four players and fired high into the net then minutes later ben crampton showed strength to win a 50/50 ball and cut inside and fire high into the goal another great cross from the right by stephen greaves caused panick in the bowburn goal mouth and cameron johnson tucked the ball home john pratt rounded of the scoring with a great run and finish to give coxhoe a 5-1 victory over their local rivals.

Under 14’s vs Gateshead FC
With both teams sitting level at the top of the division, albeit at this very early stage of the season, there was a desire to get the win and start consolidating number 1 position. Things didn’t go to plan, with Gateshead gaining 3 goals without reply in 14 minutes. This lead could have been stretched even further 2 minutes later had it not been for brave goal keeping from Lee Saiger in a 1 on 1 situation with the fast Gateshead attack. A great save at the other end of the pitch prevented Henry Davies opening the Coxhoe scoring on 18 minutes after a well struck shot which resulted from a United corner. A long distance chance for Coxhoe from Stephen Wadge was agonisingly close going into side netting but the Gateshead net was finally breached on 31 minutes by Jack Thirlaway’s floated shot into the top corner. With a goal on the score sheet Coxhoe appeared a different team, and again Stephen was unlucky not to score on 33 minutes when he dinked the ball over the head of his marker, opening up the field in front of him for a looping shot which unfortunately didn’t dip fast enough to go under the crossbar. Good strength from Joe Nixon prevented a Gateshead goal on the stroke of half time as he got back to block a shot after the attacker had rounded Lee in goal.
Into the second half and Coxhoe started with the momentum they had built towards the end of the first half, with Henry striking fast and low within the first 2 minutes but the outstretched diving Gateshead keeper managed to tip it out of harms way. Keiren Jowett, in goal for Coxhoe in the second half , played his part too with a tremendous fingertip save and another block from the resulting corner, but this all fed into an unbelievable barnstorming run from Henry Davies, beating almost every player down the left wing and launching an unstoppable shot to give United hope with only 1 goal in it and 20 minutes on the clock. This prompted a change in formation, with 3 at the back pushing more men up front which did actually result in Cameron Holdsworth grabbing the equaliser but alas it was after the referee had blown for a marginal offside. Coxhoe were certainly on the ascendancy but the final whistle blew too early for the team to capitalise on it.
Final Score:- Coxhoe United 2 - Gateshead FC 3
Goals:- Jack Thirlaway, Henry Davies
Man of the Match:- Michael Wake
Cleveland Hall Blues vs Under 12’s
Coxhoe - still looking for their first win of the season - travelled to Gateshead to play Cleveland Hall Blues. Coxhoe started the game well and were quickly 2 goals up - (Ben Crampton and Stephen Greaves). Both teams played some excellent football but Coxhoe ended the half 3-2 down!
Ben Crampton scored his second goal early in the second half - to bring us back level with Cleveland Hall - and then another for his hat-trick saw us once again in the lead. John Pratt scored shortly afterwards to give us a two goal cushion, but Gateshead pulled another back to keep it a nail-biting 5-4. In the final moments of the game, Cameron Storey scored and Coxhoe notched up their first win of the season 6-4. A great match by both teams with some fantastic goals. Well done United, lets hope this is the start of many wins this season.
Final Score:- Cleveland Hall Blues 4- Coxhoe United 6
Goals:- Ben Crampton x 3, Stephen Greaves, John Pratt, Cameron Storey

Farringdon detached vs Under 8’s ‘United’
Coxhoe United under 8’s first match of the new 2010/11 season on this mild, wet September morning. Both teams started well with Jack, Sam and Tom batling with a physically larger Farringdon midfield, giving as good as they got. In the fourth minute the Farringdon number 8 rode a number of challenges on the right hand side to give himself a shooting chance, sublimely he curled the ball into the top right hand corner leaving the keeper Ben Davison with no chance. Coxhoe continued to battle, but most of the play was confined to the midfield with the odd foray by Farringdon dealt with the defensive partnership of Josh Cairns and Michael Gaskell. Coxhoe’s best chance came from Lewis on the right who beat 2 players and crossed a dangerous ball which was cleared. Tom was injured at the end of the first half after a brave challenge and was replaced by Ned.
Coxhoe started to push Farringdon back in the second half bossing the game with Lucas and Ned combining well in midfield. An isolated Farringdon break just before the midway mark found the Farringdon centre forward baring down on goal with only the keeper to beat. Ben Davison bavely challenged for the bouncing 50:50 ball smartly saving. Coxhoe’s well deserved goal came just after Owen, Michael and Ned forced a corner. Josh Cairns took the resulting kick which somehow found itself in the bottom left hand corner of the goal equalising the score. Farringdon reacted well after the goal but the midfield and defence held well. The game finished a deserved 1-1 draw.
Final Score – Farringdon detached 1 - Coxhoe United 1
Goals – Josh Cairns 1
Man Of The Match – Josh Cairns
Under 8’s ‘United’ vs Hilda Park Badgers
Coxhoe United under 8’s second match of the new 2010/11 season on this mild, wet September morning. The match started on a boggy pitch after a torrential downpour. Both teams were well matched in the first half with chances at either end. Coxhoe conceded 2 early corners which were well defended by Michael Gaskell and Lewis with Coxhoe’s keeper catching the second. The resulting goalie kick to Ned who passed quickly to Josh found Josh in a more advanced position to normal when he took a speculative shot from just inside the oppositions half when he was allowed too much space. The resulting shot passed through the defence and squirmed under Hilda Parks keeper to give Coxhoe a surprise lead. The oppositions main chance came at the end of the first half which found their lanky forward squeezing through 2 desperate challenges by Josh and Lucas with only the keeper to beat. Ben Davison came sliding out in typical fashion, spreading himself well to make the save. The ball was passed to Michael who after some smart passing with Ned, Lucas and Owen tried his luck from the halfway line forcing a save.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first however Coxhoe went from strength to strength and gained the upper hand. Owen got stuck in with at least 2 excellent tackles with resulting through balls troubling the defence. A snap shot by Owen slipped just wide of the right hand post after a magic pass by Jack and another last ditch tackle just stopped Owen from getting one on one with the keeper. Josh, Jack and Michael continued to hold the defensive line giving Hilda Park to room to manouvre. One of the best pieces of individual play saw Sam having the audacity to take on 4 of the opposition players unluckily being tackled by the last one as he was bursting through the left side of their defence. Lewis came on and terrorized the right flank with his speed and was unlucky to shoot over the bar shortly followed by Sam hitting the side netting. The final whistle was blown shortly afterwards giving Coxhoe United a 1-Nil win.
Final Score – Coxhoe United 1 Hilda Park Badgers 0
Goals – Josh Cairns 1
Man Of The Match – Josh Cairns

Felling Magpies vs Under 14’s
A change in tactics this season see’s last years Rockets and United amalgamate to create 1 stronger squad and avoid the numerous occasions experienced last season where both teams struggled to put a full team with subs into a match.
A nervous first few minutes to the season was eased from an 8th minute Cameron Holdsworth corner perfectly weighted for Henry Davies to head it into the top of the net, out of the keepers reach and take an early lead. Keiren Jowett made a tremendous low save a couple of minutes later to retain the advantage and the following manoeuvre saw Henry slide a lovely pass through for Jamie Appleby to run onto, shoot, and double the lead. Keiren was called upon again in net 2 minutes later with a reaction save after the ball rolled through to the box into the path of the Felling striker from a throw in. The Magpies finally chalked a goal up on 22 minutes when a clearance rebounded off the advancing attack who rounded the keeper and shot into goal. The 2 goal lead was restored seconds later when Stephen Wadge, playing in central midfield as opposed to last seasons customary central defence, slotted his shot through the legs of the keeper from beyond the edge of the penalty box. More goals came from Andrew Simpson and Cameron Holdsworth before half time - both looped over the head of the Felling keeper, while the defensive partnership of Joe Nixon, Michael Wake, Kieren Latcham and Jack Thirlaway were solid at the back to keep the Magpies out.
Into the second half and Felling seemed to become a lot more physical, with Coxhoe players feeling the weight of several crunching tackles, notably on Curtis Bihari and Michael Wake who had to watch the rest of the game from the side-lines. Lee Saiger pulled off a brace of tremendous saves to keep the momentum with Coxhoe and with 10 minutes left to play a 6th goal came for United from Henry after one of his trademark left wing runs. A soft goal for Felling gave them some inspiration, then a couple of defensive mix ups with mis kicks and lack of communication gifted them 2 more, making the last few seconds of the match a tense affair, but Coxhoe managed to hang on to start the season on a high with note-worthy performances across the team, and Henry being unlucky not to achieve a hat-trick after his whole hearted performance. Sam Murphy and Charlie Pearson made notable debuts with solid defensive and fast attacking combinations.
Final Result - Felling Mapies 4 - Coxhoe United 6
Goals - Henry Davies x2, Jamie Appleby, Stephen Wadge, Andrew Simpson, Cameron Holdsworth
Man Of The Match - Jack Thirlaway
Under 12’s V Brandon FC
a bad start to the season for the under 12s
the game kicked of with coxhoe kicking against a strong wind and were under pressure from the start and after 10 minutes brandon took the lead
coxhoe came back and almost scored from the re start and started to create a few chances untill brandon added a further goal to go into the break 2 up. the second half got underway with coxhoe trying to get back into the game only to be caught on the counter attack as brandon added a third. the game seemed to slow a little as brandon were happy with their lead, however some neat football put cameron johnson in who shot past the keeper to give coxhoe some hope, but that wasn.t to be as bradon a further 2 goals to finish te game worthy winners.
Final Result - Coxhoe United 1 - Brandon FC 5
Goal - cameron johnson
Man of the Match - brendan watson

SENIOR TEAM vs Washington Cricket Club
Two of the new boys to the league met for their first mid week clash as Coxhoe played host to Washington Cricket Club and it was Coxhoe who started off brightly with an early chance forcing a great save from the Washington keeper which set the tone for the first half. Washington looked dangerous on the break down the right hand side and with a big strong centre forward they were always a threat with the high ball and wasted a great chance to score with 2 men free at the back post later, however a number of good passing moves from Coxhoe set up chance after chance but the final ball always seemed to be lacking which meant the half finished 0-0.
The second half started a little scrappier with both teams struggling to cope with a strengthening wind however it was Coxhoe who opened the scoring with 10 mins gone as a cross come shot from Liam Mawson was deflected on the way into the back of the net. The goal should have given Coxhoe the confidence to press on but instead they went into their shells and allowed Washington to get the upper hand for a 20 minute spell which resulted in a very similar goal to United's with a cross come shot ending up in the back of the net. The final 15mins saw chances for both teams as players tired and should have resulted in more goals but a combination of post, bar and poor finishing from both sides meant the final score remained 1-1.
Goal : Liam Mawson
MOM : Phillip Lawson

Shildon Railway FC vs SENIOR TEAM
Coxhoe United's first game in the Durham Alliance today was against Shildon - a top 6 team from last year which ended in a 2-2 draw.
United started strongly winning all the individual battles across the field and had the better chances in the opening exchanges however Shildon showed their experience on the break and took their first chance of the game with an early ball into the box with a good finish.
The Shildon keeper kept their team in the game with 2 superb saves from Shaun Ryder and a deflected chance but poor defending gave Shildon a 2 -0 half time lead as a deep cross into the box was headed back across goal and ended up in the back of the net.
United started the second half strongly and were again on top when a cross from a wide position bobbled in the area and the referee awarded a penalty for a hand ball on the goal line and sent the player off. A cool penalty from the captain on the day put United back in the game and they grew in strength with the man advantage.
As the game went on Coxhoe drew level after a thru ball from Ian Brabon gave Craig Brown the chance to cross from the bye line which was met with a good header at the back post by Liam Lawson.
The final 15 minutes were end to end with chances for both teams but the final whistle went with a well deserved point for United. A good result for Coxhoe with all the team showing great attitude and working together to get a fantastic result first up.
Well done lads.
